UPDATE: I changed my MTU to 1473 and changed DNS to google and now look at the speed!



This could be a random coincidence, but this is the only thing after many restarts ect that made it work for me.

Pause it and restart it a few times should clear it up. Also there is a thread about this issue already

I am 77mb down and 10 up with speed test but on PS4 / PSN I am rarely higher than 15mb down. I've tried various DNS ids but could never get it above that. I will try the pause / restart thing to see if it makes a difference.

On a semi-related note, I didn't realize Planet side 2 was available now. Will be sucking this one through too later on

I always thought this was related to the hardware of the console. I'm running 150/12, but my PS3 was stupid slow. Considering the cheap hardware that goes into the console, I guess that shouldn't surprise me.

I think the DL speeds are on Sony's side. I've always had the worst speeds with them even though I pay for a 25mbps connection. Even with the PS3

That would be my guess as well as Sony is the one with all the infrastructure for PSN and the PSN store/updates.

Guess its good that PSN is supposed to be as good as Xbox Live now

Hope it does pick up for you though with that massive patch, I would assume that is coming to xbox soon as well...

when u set up internet connection click custom, mtu 1473 and dns 8888 8844

no such luck for me but thanks anyway. i had it down to 3 hours earlier by doing the angry repeated tap of the X button but then accidently paused the damn download again and now cant get i down below 60+ hrs. this is just *** ridiculous!!!

Pausing and unpausinf took me from 23 hours to 17 hours....Every little helps I guess

lower mtu size to help fix a 15GB download makes no sense

reducing mtu size only makes sense for tiny tcp data transmissions, which is why it's beneficial in shooter games

I've had to delete the patch at 5GB 3 times now because it just stopped, that's the 15GB done for me.

WOW. The horrible advice here.

#1 Do NOT change your MTU. 1500 is normal. Leave your Max Transmit Unit as is please!

#2 DNS wont matter. Once it resolves a domain name to an IP it's done it job. Just stick with your routers DNS functions 192.168.1.1 or whatever your modem LAN IP is. You can use Googles at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but I wouldn't. Use this only when/if your ISP is having DNS issues. Your ISP really should do all the Domain Name Server lookups. The only time I have ever seen Google DNS fix anything is when an ISP is having issues with a DNS server. Which is very very very rare on the client end.

#3 Don't bother forwarding ports. Forwarding is for servers behind a router. DO make sure nobody is blocking your PSN ports though. Modern routers do this with UnPNP and it works great these days.

#4 If you call yourself a gamer you should be hardwired. Don't expect your ISP to run the cat5e to your gaming hole for free. Hire a contractor or run a line yourself. WiFi is garbage.

#5 Don't "Double NAT" use switches to split your hardwired connections. Don't use another router behind a router IE: ISP router non-bridged to another router you have like a Netgear. Don't use "hubs" just use switches.

#6 Don't call your ISP. I am frankly getting sick of being dispatched to fix internet because your PS4 says your DL speed is at 5Megs. Check on a wired PC at speedtest.net or DSL reports. My company charges $100 just to have us show up and show you that your PS4 is 5-15Meg and your provided connection is up to your package. In 2015 I banked $2,300 in service call charges because customers did not check their PC speeds and trusted the PS4 "speedtest". All 23 customers refused to troubleshoot with the call centre, so I billed them. The ones who did all that phone call crap like unplugging modem, checked on PCs with the phone agent did not get charged.


The issue is the PSN. I encourage everyone in North America to call Sony at 1-877-971-7669 and let them know that you pay for the service and 1-5mbps is not at all acceptable for 2017.

I called PSN, escalated the call, as I had never once called Sony in my life, even during the summer downtime a few years ago when they were hacked ALL summer. Call escalated to a "Manager" named "Charles ID # 10020". He followed a script (facepalm) and thought it was my ports. Not ports, have a connection but its slow. Then he tried to blame my ISP. I explained to him my speeds at 50M down, no CRC, FEC, HECs, 0% Packet Loss over 48 hours. I am a field tech for ISP so I can check and repair my own physical network. The pervious agent wanted me to factory reset the PS4 and make me redownload everything.

Asked for a 1 month PSN+ credit due to years of poor service. Basically got told my PS4 was working perfectly. Apparently slow downloads are perfect guys, and the system is working as intended.

Income tax refunds are coming. Buying the xBoxOne. I was a loyal supporter/fan boi for all things Playstation for many many years. Even through the "summer hack", slow speeds, constant hacks on the PSN taking it down and even when they started charging. But not tossing me 1 month of Plus after all that. Sony lost a customer for everything, gaming, TVs, electronics. I'm done with them for good.

Take care guys! Please stop doing stupid crap like changing MTUs and thinking there is something you can do at home (unless you have recent changes that may cause issues). It's the PSN. It's not very robust and always has been a spotty network.

These slows speeds were acceptable when a full game was 6gig. But not when patches are 70gig and updates are 20gig.

$15 a month for PSN+ that is slow as molasses.
$15 a month for ESO+ that Includes DLC, But won't include Morrowind?!?!

How about you just keep the game good, keep adding content, and keep taking my $15 a month instead of detracting from potential income sources by charging for add-ons. It's not like there is single player stuff in the game. $30 a month for a game PLUS expansion packs?

I'm not seeing the value in any of this anymore to be honest.

Do not change anything the OP says MTU 1500 is the default and recommended value for gaming. I had slow download speeds on my xbox one and all I did was restart my console and it increased my download speed to what it should be.
