What is a mat?

I've been reading up on crafting in the forums but keep running into the term "mat" without explanation of what it is. I'm sure I just haven't reached the knowledge in game, but my curiosity can not wait.

mat means material, so an ore or reagent etc.

Wood, ore, plants, water .... all of those things are mats. (Materials)

What the hell did I just watch? I'm not talking about it being the "literal video version" either, I've just never seen the music video for Total Eclipse of the Heart before, and I had no idea how utterly messed-up it is... I mean, I know back then everyone in the industry was super coked-up, but still.

The terminology is a bit tricky to pick up, but as everyone pointed out it means material.

Like you, I'm into ES games for a long time but I was new to MMOs when ESO came out, too. For quite a while I was wondering what a "PUG" is, like "what does a crumply dog have to do with ESO?" lol until I found out that it stands for pickup group^^
