Any way to level Bolt Escape faster? And how does it affect the ability?

1) I just recently leveled high enough in the Storm Calling tree to get the bolt escape ability, but I'm finding it a very slow process to level it. Compared to other skills that seemed to have just jumped to morphing level in an hour or so. Is this because the ability does not actually do damage?

2) does leveling Bolt escape and it's morphs actually have any affect on the ability? Damage abilities begin to do more damage as they level, correct? So does bolt escape have its distance increased as it levels or something?

1. "Higher" abilities from skilltrees require more experience to master 'em - they are more difficult for character to cast, learn or whatever.
2. Distance doesnt change at all - you gain option to morph it to projectile spell absorber (BoL) or to have more offensive escape (Streak). With leveled BoL lasts longer and with Streak you have increased damage.

What you can do is before handing in quests put all the skills on that skill tree onto your bar,
this will increase the XP you get for that tree.

Ball of lightning morph lasts longer the higher rank it is.
Streak morph does more dmg the higher rank it is.

Make sure it is on your bar when you are turning in quests, but other than that higher level skills just take longer to level. Top tier skills in a line will take a very long time to level and you will progress through several player levels before you see the morph for these skills.

Abilities and their morphs are based directly on experience you gain. These gains are increased by having multiple abilities of the same tree (or multiple pieces of armor).

Here's a breakdown.
Storm Calling Tree:

Ability 1 takes 100 experience to level.
Ability 2 takes 150 experience to level.
Ability 3 takes 200 experience to level.
Ability 4 takes 250 experience to level.
Ability 5 takes 300 experience to level.

You kill Mob A for 100 experience with ONLY Ability 1 slotted. Ability 1 gains 10/100 experience.
You kill Mob A for 100 experience with Ability 1 AND Ability 2 slotted. Ability 1 gains 11/100 experience. Ability 2 gains 11/150 experience.
You kill Mob A for 100 experience with Ability 1 AND Ability 2 AND Ability 3 slotted. Ability 1 gains 12/100 experience. Ability 2 gains 12/150 experience. Ability 3 gains 12/200 experience.

And so on.

As mentioned above, only abilities on your ACTIVE hotbar will give experience (And again, whichever armor types you have equipped)
