Deleting Characters

I realize that TESO is trying to limit re-rollitis, but I wonder why you are unable to delete characters after a certain number is reached.

I cannot delete any further characters yet I can create up to 8 of them?

As a brand new player that doesn't know the mechanics of this game at all, I would like to be able to restart a character and get it right, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Is it that the server needs a bit to reset/refresh to eliminate the deleted characters or is this a permanent limitation?

The character deletion limit was put in place as a very effective way to combat bots.

Goldsellers were creating a character, running a simple (but profitable) quest, putting the gold in the bank, and then deleting the character. They could do this with hundreds or thousands of characters per day, and as such were able to generate a huge amount of gold to sell. The deletion limit stopped this, and within the week it was implemented, the bot problem pretty much went away.

Unless an equally effective solution is created, the deletion limit should stay.

It was implemented last year as a bot/gold-seller-prevention measure.

People would create a new character, port to a friend in a town a few zones up, do a quick quest there that involved no danger, get the reward, send gold off to another account, delete the character and start over.

It's pretty amazing how well it worked.

You will get your deletions back after the cool-down, so be patient!

    And welcome!

    Personally:

Sorcerer - great class, but not if you are also using a weapon and, frankly, on single-player, they're weanies and have no options for upping sneak abilities
    Nightblade - classic assassin/thief
Templar - beat the crap out of them warrior
Dragonknight - some weird merge of warrior and sorcerer as far as I can tell

I don't know what races work best for what, what the powers of each are, etc...

I realize that there's a www out there, but there is just too much conflicting information.

I would like to experiment as I've found that it's nearly impossible to do certain things, even on same level opponents as a solo in certain classes.

Example: In Daggerfall, when trying to defeat the final assassin and save the king. No problem Sorcerer or Nightblade - you can deal out enough damage and are maneuverable enough level 4 to 4 to easily beat him.

As a Templar or Dragonknight? Forget it. I just kept getting served. Nothing I did would slow that guy down. Even though we're the same level, he was just too much.

    Thoughts?

Same reason anyone does. Re-roll. I am finding that I have no idea what class capabilities are (yes, I know that's oodles posted online, but it's too much) and I'm very unhappy with the options I chose as I get up towards level 10.

I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with what I have and suffer through it even though I hate the character.

    8 variations should be enough.

You couldn't knock him back with Javelin on the Templar?

I found my nightblade much harder to play at lower levels than my Templar was. Of course, I started with the nighblade when a bunch of stuff didn't work right and they nerfed difficulty since then too. But my Templar can handle pretty much anything.

Each class has pros and cons, and each class can be played in different ways, so there's a lot of flexibility. It may take a while to find out what suits your style.

Thank you. Sorry to be such a newb, but I've never done MMO or anything like this. Good so far, but confusing. Makes perfect sense. I'll be patient, just wanted to ask.

You seem to know alot about this game. I know how to join a group, but I'm not very good at keeping track of those that I joined. As a newbie, would it just be a good idea to follow your fellow group members and act as support until I'm comfortable? Also, do I have to communicate (I do have headphones and mic)?

Try this site for determining various class skill abilities: http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Class+Skills

Also, you can find on there various skills and abilities for race, armor, crafting, guilds, etc. This might help you plan better.

I don't even know what "Javelin" is, of course, I rarely play 2 handed/sword&board warriors. I like my nightblade though. She kicks butt and can heal herself easily.

What I want is something along the lines of a spellsword, but I haven't discovered the combo yet.

    Thanks for the advice.

It's the second skill in the Aedric Spear line. It throws your enemy backwards, so it gives you time to recover if necessary.

I've never been the Spellsword type, but I would think either a sorcerer or a dragonknight would be the best classes to fit the role. The sorc has more synergy with lightning and the DK with fire. A Templar would be something like a Paladin if you go heavy armor.

As for communicating when grouping, I'm really not familiar with the Console environment. On PC, when you are in a group, you can type to group members by using /g. And there is no native voice chat, so you have to use something like TeamSpeak or Mumble, and that's mostly done within a guild. But on PC, I've grouped with people who sent a group request and we just kind of followed each other and did what we needed without necessarily chatting a lot.

    I hope that helps!

Wow. That's unusual. The "why is there a delete limit" question gets brought up by new people on a fairly regular basis. Usually, though, even when people explain why the limit was put in place, the person asking the question refuses to accept that as a logical reason, and continues arguing about how unfair it is. I'm not used to someone being reasonable about it and seeing the sense in it... I applaud your ability to be reasonable on the internet!

sorry but i need to chime in here on sorc. im running your typical mage (cloth/destro and restro staff with clanfear and winged twilight. i soloed to V14 without much issue, only had to group for the group oriented dungeons and such. I have one of each class to v14 and my fave out of them all is sorc. its the one i had least trouble lvling as well. In my boredom i changed my sorc to a magic knight (heavy armor sword/shield/2hander) and honestly once again no issues in killing things quickly. most of the time i will leave combat full health if not i just pop a quick potion and continue on.

I've been a PC player since beta and I'm pretty disappointed there has not been a better solution implemented yet for gold spammer prevention that does not hurt the actual players.

I can honestly say I wouldn't be playing this game if I started today. The 3 deletions is simply not enough when you new. The character creator like all MMO's has its quirks and sometimes things don't look quite the same in the actualy game. I am a pretty big perfectionist with my characters appearance, and with so many sliders in this game to tweak is easy to have some major flaws.

On top of just messing up your appearance then theres wanting to try different classes but maybe you want a certain name, reading about a class or planning a build with some skill calculator isn't the same as trying it.

You might have 8 slots, but you cant use the name 8 times if you want to use a certain name. Especially some of us, use the same name every MMO and run with same groups of people.

I have heard stories that FF14 on consoles has a gold spammer problem too, so I can see why this limitation is still on console, and the fact I don't have to sub anymore makes it a bit easier to deal with cause at least I don't have to pay and have a limitation put on me.

Just wanted confirmation is this really the delete limit? 3 a month! i made my characters based on some false assumptions I re-did three characters last night couldn't make the fourth. I have 5 that are right and 3 i want to change up.
At first i though that's okay i made my characters they looked good. Then on the log out screen it seemed they under-went some horrific transformation i don't like putting my characters on the minimum age baby smooth features they are battle hardened experienced death dealers, and i like cheek bones. but when I log out there are lines and shading where there was none in the creation screem, the new sorc I was going to level as a break from VR grind looks like a plastic surgery gone wrong nightmare saggy jowled/melted face and just ugly(high elf). and my Templar healer focused has the plainest dullest face (damn breton females why you no have features). So I want to redo them and start playing them but can't and I'm not sinking months into a character i cant bare to look at on the login screen. im happy with my wood elf at least, and the other 4 male characters i have.

surely if i make a character and they have done no quests at all i should be able to delete them, or if they are less than say 4 hours old, or even just let me edit them! they look fine in game and on the character screen but the extra rendering on the logout screen makes them look terrible.

and yes i am sad enough to want my characters to look like heroes how i imgaine heroes, not rumplestiltskin meets drag-queen.

on a related note : communication between my PS4 and server seems to time out if i take too long in creating the Toon and all that time is lost, can you not have the creation coded locally cached on my machine and remote from the server and then only when i try to finalise (enter a name) require me to be connected to the server to upload my finalised Toon? so frustrating having to start over seconds from finalising.

@willymchilybily You should get one Delete returned every 24 hours, so after 3 days you have all 3 back again. I think the timer resets when you use one though, so if you are 23 hours after using one, you would get it back in an hour, but if you delete again before then, you'll have to wait another 24 hours before any will be returned.

Actually one of the beefiest classes in the game and easy to learn. Start by buying Summon Familiar, and then morph it to a Clanfear as soon as you can, and you'll always have a friend out there.

The actual stealth boosting is on the races, medium armor, and legerdemain (stealing stuff) skills. Not the classes.

More of a magical assassin/ninja than a normal assassin class. These guys are fantastic about hitting hard from nowhere, and slipping away.

All of the classes are magical, the DK is no exception. These are the heavy durability class. They'll take more of a beating and shrug it off than any other class in the game.
    DenMoria wrote: »

I'm going to irk some people with this, but:

Wood Elves and Khajiit are stealth focused.

Orcs, Nords, Redguards and Imperials excel as front line fighters.

Bretons, Dark Elves, and High Elves are your premier mage picks.

    Argonians are... allegedly healers.

Ultimately though, it doesn't matter that much. You can go off race with any class and still end up with a viable build. Race picks feature into min-maxing, in which case, go research it first. But pick the race you like, over the one that's absolutely the most optimal.

In theory, Nightblades and Sorcs are your DPS classes, Templars are your healers, and DKs are your tanks... but...

That actually depends on your weapon and armor loadout. Heavy armor is primarily for tanks (though some melee DPS will go in for it.) Medium armor is for stealth players and stamina based DPS. Light Armor is for magicka based DPS.

Sword and Board is a tank choice. Increased survivability, reduced damage. This weapon has one of the only hard taunts in the game, so if you're wanting to tank, you need this.

Two Handed is a hybrid between tank and melee DPS. It can go either way. It has stuff that will boost your survival (like Brawler) and stuff that will play to damage. It's a good well rounded choice for either Tanks or Melee DPS.

Dual Wield is (primarily) a melee DPS set. Lots of damage, one very good Point Blank AOE.

Bow is your ranged Stamina DPS option (note, all Melee DPS is going to be stamina based.) At low levels you'll have a harder time with this, probably, than with melee. Though it can end up very good in the right hands.

Destruction Staff is very customization. Basically swapping out the element of your staff will change most of the abilities in this tree.

Restoration Staff is for healing. I realize that's somewhat obvious, but it does let you boost your own survivability a lot, if you've got abilities from the tree.

Now, the information overload element comes in when you learn that you can use any weapon and armor type with any character. So you can take a nightblade, stick them in heavy armor with a sword and board, and end up with a very durable tanky vampiric knight. Or, stick a Sorceror in Medium, give them a bow, and end up with a Ranger type character.

For figuring that stuff out, I'd actually recommend keeping your characters, and just taking them up to higher levels. You can respec any time you want (though it does carry a cost), and you can buy far more skills than you'll ever use. Remember, just because you bought a skill doesn't mean you need to equip it right now.

So, if you roll up a character and decide you don't like how they're working out, you can just change around their skills, give them a different armor type, and try them in a different role. There's no real pressure to pick a specific way to play a class ahead of time.
