Weapon skills.

So I never had the chance to notice this before because I was dw/bow but i recently picked up resto staff for the regenerate skill. But it won't let me use it without a resto staff equipped. Normal or no? Just wondering because it doesn't say "when restoration staff equipped" like it does for passives so I was just wondering.

As I said I was dw/bow and only used volley and other aoe, and those seemed like they needed a bow to use so i never questioned but I wouldn't really think so for the regenerate skill..

I'm just wondering because I was going to have regenerate in my backup bar but was also gonna have an aoe there too so it would conflict if I had to equip a staff to use resto, I may just be nightblade dps mini healer for solo'ing world bosses

Yes you need the resto staff equipped, think of those active skills ass the staffs attacks in the same way as you think of the bows attacks.

So same thing for 2h attacks then? I can't just learn and then use with dw? /:

Skills in the weapon trees only apply to their particular weapon types.

Okay I gotta rethink my strategies and possible next weapon skill line, thanks for the answers guys

I also found this disappointing, but I guess Zenimax had its reasoning for doing so. I would love for weapon skill lines to be interchangeable with other weapons even if it came with a small disadvantage for doing so. But there doesn't seem to be a large cry out for it so I doubt it will happen.
