Center camera option..... PLEASE - ps4

Anakee
Anakee
So,

Ive started this game since launch on console and is my first console mmo and besides a few tiny hiccups, i cant get enough of it.
Certainly it comes with issues but what mmo doesnt in its early days? Text chat/ah/minimap etc are things which would certainly be nice but not essential.
But there is one thing. One god forsaken thing which is absolutely tearing the combat apart for me. The camera.
Im a person who plays 3rd person - always. In fact i dont even know how playing first person in vet dungeons etc would even be a possibility with lack of surrounding awareness, but, the over shoulder camera.

I play a melee nightblade and this camera is HORRIBLE. I am forever positioning my character directly in line with my target cos - rational choice. But instead have to stand off to the side and try to always make sure the monster of a cursor is over it. I play now with the camera on max zoom out purely for a center. No mmo ive ever played had this as a default without the option to switch it and this is almost gamebreaking for me. There are multiple camera options, from fov, head bob etc. It surely couldnt be too much trouble to have a left shoulder/right shoulder/center option, and perhaps an option to turn off the cursor entirely, its not needed if targetted enemies glow, or even a option to just make it a dot. Anyways, like i say, i love this game, lags a mess, and systems are hazey, as expected for launch, but even through all that im having a better time then i did on any mmos ive played on my pc in the last 10 years.

If im not the only one suffering the madness this horrific camera option causes please voice an opinion. Get those sexy characters and shiney armour center stage in an update towards making this game even better.

Anakee.

Agreed. Having the Crosshairs off to the side is a little awkward.

Hey guys. Hold the down button on your controller and zoom out using the left analog stick. :)

Yeah, i mentioned this in my op, but to get the camera to center you must zoom out to max, which isnt a very nice solution to the issue. A smaller cursor and option to remove cursor and simply putting left/right/center camera options woukd quickly solve anyone who has issues with its dilemma.

I read the title of this thread and can agree.

It was the best thing ever when it was added to PC, and I was disappointed when I got on PS4 and found out that setting was nowhere to be found :(

Yes, we have it on the PC.

It's great, makes just about everything easier and less clumsy, and I hope ZOS will make it available to you as soon as possible. :)

Right now to move the camera you press down and pull down or push up on the right stick. Moving the stick left and right does nothing. They should simply allow the left and right movement of the stick to move the camera to the left and to the right.

Seems like a pretty simple solution. The code already exists to shift the camera left and right...
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

This. Such an easy fix. The only issue is the cursor then, as, if they center it with the current monster of a cursor it will cover half the character. A simple white dot would fix the issue, or option to switch off as red glow is plenty enough for seeing what youre pointing at.

I dont even get the value of these "console player" comments. What was the point? I just came to this from 10years of pc mmos including endgame wow and wildstar etc and im having a ball on the console version of this and have found tons of skilled players. Sometimes its nice to kick back on your couch with your pad and be able to do your thing instead of being huddled over a keyboard at a desk. Besides center camera, if theres something that would make me happy seeing as you cant mod the console vers, damage numbers. Seeing your dps, bleeds, when you crit, knowing when things expire. It would add so much more depth to combat. Does the unmodded pc vers have numbers at this point in time?

    You missed the point.

He was taking a shot at Zenimax.

That's been their answer on many things. That it would be too confusing etc.

We agree it's ridiculous to not let console players have this option , and to be allowed to remap controls etc.

It's Zenimax who thinks console players couldn't handle having options.

This doesn't exist on consoles? I've seen console players asking after it on reddit and finding them. They should be in your Camera options menu.

I kind of like the camera. It makes combat more engaging by paying attention to who you are targeting more.

I'm a melee NB too, never had any problems with the camera.

Well all I can say is that ESO is still young on consoles.
I'm in Australia and it's been out for less than a month.

It might be something they look at patching in in the future.

    Fingers crossed!

@Anakee No, PC players do not get damage numbers. No numbers on our health bars etc. That is all addons. All I can tell for differences is..

Console has voice chat, PC does not
PC has text chat, console does not.
Console has lootdrop and advanced inventory (if we have autoloot on.. We don't get anything that pops up to tell us what we picked up. And like.. All our "armor" is in one big alphabetical tab, no "light" "heavy" etc)
PC has addons.. Console does not
Oh, we do have a (not really) handy part of our crafting menu (when at a station) to show what traits we know.. I couldn't find that on console

Oh, and of course the ui looks different.. And we have some graphic settings that console does not because its not needed (consoles are all the same, unlike pcs where some are better than others)

Of course, I may have overlooked some differences while I played.. So don't take this as set in stone

[Edit] and to the person that mentioned the reticle being over the character... Yeah that happens, you can deal with it, but its a bit meh.

They really left this out of the console versions? It took over a year of frequent requests and well-reasoned feedback to have it added to the PC version (with no advance notice as to it being under consideration, even... it just magically showed up in the version 1.6 patch notes one day buried deep inside them in a UI subsection, and requested tweaks afterwards such as allowing a zoom distance preference too were never responded to). :(

All sounds good and yeah that was me with the reticle issue haha. One other thing which would be a godsend and im not sure if pc has it, locking items. Making them not appear when youre deconstructing. At this point in time its a complete brain fart if i want to have two sets, or save something in bank where im at a crafting station everything in my bank appears there and i have to intricately make sure i dont break the wrong thing. This can also be a nightmare and reaaaaaally suprising that its overlooked.

Well damn. So far i feel like games 9/10 on the mmo front and i absolutely love it, but theres some very very basic mmo UI functionality and necessities which have been really passed by, which is a shame cos these few things would make for a VERY solid mmo experience, if not one of the best ive ever played, and this is the first true mmo ive ever played on a console without being behind my keyboard. Its still very young and if wow taught me anything after vanilla it can take years to get things to a level where 90% of the communities happy. I for one think all the QQ stuff in the eyes of most is fine ie, vet system etc. I love it that its a grind. But just some ui tweaks, and a lag fix would make me a very happy man. I have some vids of lag stuff ive experienced so far which are rather comical how bad it can be. :D

Yeah it seems like its actually dangerous to voice an opinion here, god forbid something in a young game doesnt sit right with you and you speak up about it, people jump all over it on the attack instantly on most threads. "NO NOOB, why would you WANT things to be more accessable, go back to Hello Kitty Island Adventure" blind defence of clearly broken mechanics most of the time. I try to stay out of it but this camera issue is by far the worst for me. And sure. Its playable. But should i REALLY have to feel uncomfortable standing next to the boss hitting over my shoulder in what seems to be the mosy awkward camera positioning ive ever seen? I dont think so. Its not a tweak which pulls devs "valuable dlc creation hours" away as most people argue on changes, its a small, very doable tweak to make a vast majority of the community happy :)

Eh, just don't mention any more stuff doing account wide rather than character bound and you should be fine ;) seriously though, Send in some feedback to ZOS as well! I personally don't know where to find that on the console version, didn't use it yet, but I imagine it's there.. Probably near the bug report option in game.

I'm in support of being able to edit the camera position to a more suitable position. Elder Scrolls third person has always been added more as an after thought but it's such a popular viewpoint that more attention should be given to it.
