New and confused

Still a little lost on crafting, I'm like level 3 in clothing, never made anything yet. I researched a few things, but still can't make a robe(it's still red in the menu). Do I have to research how to make a plain rob also.

Check to make sure you have the materials (jute) and the style zone. Style zones can be purchased from the vendor that's near the crafting table.

Also, make sure you have traits set at the 'x' if you haven't researched any. It took me a wee while to catch on what it all meant as well, but give it a day or so, and you will get it. I'm not saying I am all expert, but I can slowly get done what I need, without flapping and costing me loads of gold (most of the time! )

The last one also has pics of the different styles so you can see what they look like before you make them. Note, to craft in different styles, you need to read a Motif book and have the Style Gem on hand. You can buy the style gem at the Clothier or Woodworker or Armorer. You already know how to craft your chosen race style, but you still need the gem.
