Crafting on consoles is a mess. Suggestions to improve it.

1) There is no indicator to inform the player if a trait has already been researched for that item's category. At the very least the trait's name should be colored to indicate if research has been completed or have a simple indicator like "Trait Name (Researched)" added. Right now it's an absolute mess trying to manage crafting inventories.

2) Consoles desperately need an item sort option. It is terrible that the Deconstruct list is alphabetical but the inventory is categorized. This makes finding items far more difficult than it needs to be. Also, additional sort types such as by value, recency, etc. should be added as well.

3) There should be an indicator telling players how much inspiration is gained for creating or deconstruting an item. This would also help new players to understand just how little inspiration they get from deconstructing their own work.

While many of the PC mods make crafting too easy, helping players manage their inventory is the least the game can do. Hopefully ZoS addresses this in the near future, but the menus need to be improved to keep players adventuring instead of managing their inventories.

I couldn't agree more. Those are all things the PC side has asked for over the last year, but at least we can use add-ons to make up for the shortcomings of the UI. I feel sorry for the console folks without the add-ons, it's tough.

Best advice I can give you now is to use a Spreadsheet to track the traits. There were a few of them already made on the web, but most of those links are going away unless you have a Google Account.

To make sure you don't decon or sell something you need for research, don't keep it in the bank, or on your character. Roll a mule to store it for you. Or, just don't keep anything traited and buy it in a Guild Kiosk for 100 to 200 gold as needed. Or, join a friendly guild. Most guild mates will make traited items for research cheap (send them a tip if they do)

As for the Sorting, the only window that gives me issues is Enchanting, all the other windows sort the materials or recipes by level. Alchemy is different, but just match effects or use recipes. However the waters are sorted so that helps.

As for Inspiration, your Skill Bar for the Craft should show up in the window when you are at the station. I have floated my mouse over it just before hitting R to see the Inspiration. However bottom line, your going to be doing a lot of operations and knowing the amount of Inspiration per operation is just nice to know, not needed to know. My grinding efforts on crafting (pretty much decon or extractions) were click fests and I only worried about how many levels I raised that session. I would just pay attention to how much the bar moved on each one and then think, that's about 5% or 10% or whatever.

There is a website out there that lists most of the Inspiration you get for various operations, but really, just burn through what you have to do and repeat it until the level you want is attained.

Now, will they fix this for the console? Doubtful, but who knows. I did not use any addons for crafting until late in the crafting chase and never really needed them once I had a spreadsheet to keep track and learned about buying traited items at Guild Kiosks.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Oh my yes. This post has a lot of great suggestions/points made about deconstruction.

It is a mess at the moment. Hopefully they fix it soon. Pretty much gives me a headache when trying to decide what I want to research next.

Stop complaining wanting easy mode . it is fine how it is . it's a shame you would actually have to think about something for a change rather then have a nod do it for you.

You do realize as you scroll through your trait gems as your crafting, wether u have the gem or not. There is a msg right under each one said research to use or sumthing to that affect. If there's no msg you have it researched.

The problem is that the items that provide the trait are not visible when viewing the research menu. Add to that the fact that the inventory menu is sorted by category and the deconstruct menu is sorted alphabetically and finding which items need to be kept is far from simple. Heck, some items are not even visible from the deconstruct menu. Again, I don't mind managing my inventory but the entire process should be streamlined to some degree. Currently it requires spreadsheets and several different menus to manage.

If you are on Xbox One EU Servers I would love to be your smithing partner for Blacksmithing and deconstructing each others stuff. I am currently level 28 Blacksmithing and I am smithing most of the time.

My problems with crafting on consoles:

    - Like OP said, no indication of learned traits which should be part of the game and not through add ons that console versions cannot get anyway
    - Provisioning is one huge list if you have 100+ recipes. Even on pc they are separated by food and drinks, besides which you get managables groups. Where are those default groups on consoles? It's a hassle and unnecessarily cumbersome
    - Enchanting is a mess and lacking information at enchanting tables (of already learned runes, in fact, unknown runes still show the tier while known potency runes just give a vague prefix) You actually see more when just checking those rune in the inventory screen.
    - Checked options on the creations screen get unchecked after visiting the research screen and back to creation.
