MY FRIEND DOESN'T SHOW UP ON MY FRIEND'S LIST, AND I GET THE ERROR "CHARACTER DOES NOT EXIST" WHEN I TRY TO JOIN THEM. WHAT DO I DO?
Please note the following information when attempting to locate friends in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited:
- The sync between the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network friends lists and ESOTU can take several hours to fully populate.
- Only friends who have logged into the same ESOTU console server will show up on the in-game friends list.
- Xbox One players must follow each other as mutual friends in order for them to show up on their respective in-game Friends list.
Players should also be aware that the Guild system in ESOTU provides the same social functionalities they may be looking to utilize the friends list for, including:
- Display player's online status
- Grouping
- Travel-to-player
- In-game mail
Our Development Team is aware of the delay in friends lists syncing and are looking into it. In the meantime, players who wish to circumvent the delay can do so using the following workaround:
- Remove the friend from their Xbox/PlayStation friends list
- Add the player through the ESOTU UI (Menu > Social > Friends)
- The friend now appears on the player's in-game friends list

Any updates on this?
Still can't send anyone in-game mail.
1. Tried using gamertag
2. Tried using character name
3. Tried going to friends list and selecting send mail so it auto-completes name
4. Tried replying to a mail I received
None of those work. People can send me mail but I get an error saying "Player does not exist".

I am now having this issue as well. My friend decided to get a Xbox One and the game for his son so we could all play together. Here is breakdown of how/where his sons Gamertag shows up:
1. His son is on my Friends list and vice versa through Xbox Live. His gamertag does not have any spaces. He is visible everytime he logs into Xbox Live. I can do party chat and send him message via Xbox Live messaging system. No Issues.
2. His son shows up "IN GAME" on my friends list when he logs into the game. No issues.
3. His son was also invited to my Guild and No Issues the game recognizing him and he is now in the guild.
4. His son is also part of the groups I create and I use the in-game friends list and invite him to a group. No issues
5. His son is able to join our group, we can chat using the in-game chat, we can trade, share quests etc. No issues
6. I try to send him items or gold via in-game mail and the game says that he does not exist. **ISSUES**!!!
How can the game recognize him in EVERY other method, but when it comes it in-game mail it says that person does not exist?
