How to permanently turn off voice chat?

Aebin
Aebin
I keep getting put into an area chat. I leave the area chat, only to be placed in another one when I enter a, or re-enter the, area. I don't want to listen to people singing, yelling or beating their kids. How can I turn of the chat permanently?

I get this is a social game, but I need to have more control over when I want to participate in a chat session, who I listen to and talk to.

PS4 - Unfortunately there is no way to permanetly turn it off on PS4 that I have seen/heard of. You're out of luck.

Xbox One - Go to settings, your Privacy settings page, turn all voice chat options off. This takes about 6 seconds to do once you know where to look.
English is not my first language, Finnish is.
Please don't heap on me for grammar problems.

One way of doing it is to create a private chat on the PS4 this creates your own voice channel and mutes the games voice chat.

I agree with this one, but the Dev's also works.

I hope someone from Beth reads this thread, as this is getting annoying when I play.
I would like a setting where I only allow Voice Chat when in a party.

In a perfect world: In the settings menu, they should just add tick boxes for the different kind of voice chat:
    area chat
    group chat
    raid chat
    private chat
    ...

Forgot to mention I am on a PS4

Except they still hear you... Kinect will pick up the room noise if I dont leave chat. In party chat quite a bit but for the times I am not have to go in and manually leave all the time.

Or actually fix the voice chat. It should remember the last setting I made. If I leave Area chat, I made that choice. DO NOT re-add me to area chat over and over.

Also, if guild officer, auto-join guild officer chat by default until I leave it and select another channel. Then REMEMBER that selection until I change it again.

    And...add text chat, thanks.

Have not run into this when mic has been on. More or less I hear very private conversations and stupid trash talk. You say your social security number is what....?

Not if you unplug your mic... Also, not sure if its the same with xbox one, but PS4 remembers your settings if you turn off the mic on your head set or eye toy
