Is It Normal For The Alchemy Daily Crafting Task To Be Unfulfillable?

Azrael008uk
So I've just received the Alchemy Writ and gotten my Beginner's accreditation.

Now to fulfil today's Daily Task I have to create a small potion of health and obtain 3 X Blessed Thistle.

The problem is... I'm in the Ebonheart Pact. Blessed Thistle doesn't grow in the area and nobody seems to sell it.

Why would they do this?

It does grow in the ebonheart area just not the first city you come to. I am pretty sure i found it in the second area.

All plants are, to a certain extent, found everywhere. Certain areas tend to trend towards types tho. Swampy areas will have more Water Hyacinth and Nirnroot, areas with grassy, rolling hills will have more flowery types, mushrooms are usually found near the bases of trees, fallen logs and in caves.

Put a point into the Keen Eye passive in your Crafting Skills and that will help a lot. Also you should be able to turn off Grass in your Video settings (or whatever you guys have). Makes it much easier to see mats. YMMV depending on how much that affects your desired immersion.

Take cross country routes to your objectives, you'll find a lot more mats in less traveled areas.

    Hope that helps a bit

    Thanks for the replies.

Last night I picked up the writ and combed the countryside pretty meticulously.

I scoured so far that I came across an Anchor and I've not even hit them in the story yet.

I found very few alchemy ingredients but I did find what was there. Just no Blessed Thistle.

I'll just have to look again. Maybe some stuff only appears at certain time of day or maybe the countryside has been picked clean by a larger than normal company of budding alchemists all scrambling after the same ingredient.

If all else fails, I would definitely check out Bleakrock Isle. From personal experience, you can't walk 100 metres without tripping over a crafting ingredient/material of some kind and the land mass is much much smaller so you won't get lost too easily. Surprisingly, I haven't run into crazy amounts of harvesters when I have harvested from there. Otherwise, just keep trying what you're doing. You'll get it.

As far as buying, check out Mournhold's wayshrine, capital of Deshaan (second zone). The guild traders there are usually bid on by the largest of trader's guilds and you're sure to find what you're looking for on sale from at least one of those traders!

I think what I need to do is just play a bit more and saving becoming proficient (or even a beginner) in crafting until the story sends me back to Stonefalls.

This game is being really tight when it comes to being able to settle into crafting but then I'm a very low level and I can understand that if the opportunity to be able to milk the crafting system to get tons of money and great gear then nobody would be playing but they'd be "spanking" the alchemy for that instead of playing the game.

Oh another thing, most of the nodes for the plants are shared, ie: if you get a Blessed Thistle one time, next time you go by that node it may be a Mountain Flower or a Bugloss.

Remember 1 thing - all recource nodes are not instanced so in high populated areas its almost impossible to find any resources.

The problem with writs is that they scale up with the amount of skill points you put in metalworking or tailoring or solvent proficiency, etc
This means that even if you are a lvl 10 char, with no access to higher lvl zones, if you spend a skill point in metalworking, tailoring, etc, the writs will start asking you for items that are only found in those areas.
I put a skill point on tailoring and cant do writs until i lvl up my character to 16 in order to travel to the next area.
Writs should be scaled to player lvl, not skill points in proficiency, but hey, thats how it is
