The future of gaming, the future of ESO, and some general thoughts / suggestions for improvement

Good day!

I would like to once again, suggest to the ESO developer team and to Zenimax to incorporate VR into the game. I would hope, that as gamers, we can all agree that there is nothing more satisfying than to not only play the game, but to be apart of the game. Even with ESO and using VorpX to simulate the HMD view, it is amazing how my gameplay turns from "Go to X, do Y, and turn in to NPC Z" to "Oh.. wow.. pretty tree". This is the magic that VR brings to the table.

On that note, I understand that there are issues surrounding it's implementation into the game. For starters, you should use the 3rd person body with the camera offset just a tad from the head position, make the head invisible locally (like you do with first person, but the game makes the entire avatar invisible), and also incorporate the camera into the IK system of the character.

As far as the UI goes, this should be an object in space rather than a typical 2D interface. It can still be 2D, but it must be positioned in Z space, on "objects" that are attached to the character. There are alot of fun ways in order to achieve both presence as well as interactivity with the menu systems, such as the character pulling out a map and unrolling it, and have it at waist height, facing up, so we have to look down to see the map. Just alot of fun stuff like this that the developers can fool around with. And by having some menu items in the forward facing view, off to the side, it provides a "***" like view to avoid motion sickness.

When designing a UI for VR, I like to think of it as a 1/4 sphere type interface in front of the person, rather than the typical "Edge" based UI on traditional monitors.

For input, the ESO team has clearly demonstrated that the game is playable using a controller, as you just released the game for consoles. So all you need to do on that end is include controller support on the PC build.

So enough of the VR plug. Let's get down to other things.

Your design of the transactional database for player to player communications such as mail is leading to an increase of load on your login servers. Wait 5-10 minutes for a mail, in game, or log out, log in, and it's there. I wonder what option people will go for. I highly suspect this is one of the causes of the grief we are seeing now. I am sure your player-base since 1.6 and console release grew a bit bigger, and this is causing strain on the server architecture by all of these people doing this. Change it so the table doesn't have a wait period between transactions.

Performance decrease / desync / lag / game crashing over time. Memory leak somewhere? I've been looking at the logs and I haven't seen anything in regards to useful information, but I send them anyways. One work-around, albeit a very sloppy workaround, is to compile the game on 64 bit architecture. If people are not using 64 bit (which, according to Steam Stats, is only 1-5% of active users), they need to update their computers / operating systems. So be it, as developers, we cannot keep catering to people that will not update their systems, as it will just lead to a very stagnate period in development, and new technologies / techniques will never come into fruition.

Now, some things to end with, that I would like to see in-game:

- ASSASSIN'S GUILD!
- Player housing zone: People will go heads over heels with player housing. From the looks of the current Crown Store, you need this diversity.

lol. I understand what your saying. It was just an experience that I personally had. Its more about the immersion factor of actually being inside of the game.

I did not have the chance to with my first character, perhaps on my second, to see Molag Bal to scale, towering over me, scaring the !@#% out of me. Fascinating stuff that VR thing is.. fascinating indeed. You know it's not real, but your fight/flight responses still kick in.
