Dragon Knight Leveling Build?

Applejack

Hey guys, so I played ESO back in the PC beta and absolutely hated it. I've since decided to try it again, and bought it for Xbox One, and I'm in love. It's a LOT of fun.

I do have a question though. I am level 9 Dunmer Dark Knight(just about to hit 10), and having some trouble with killing mobs. There is one quest where I must kill Condalin, and he's kicking my butt up and down.

I've reset my skills, and here's how my levels are:

Ardent Flame: 2
Draconic Power: 18
Earthen Heart: 13

Two Handed: 4
One Handed and Shield: 9
Dual Wield: 12
Bow: 3
Destruction Staff: 3
Restoration Staff: 3

Light Armor: 7
Medium Armor: 1
Heavy Armor: 15

Do you guys have any tips on helping me to level? I've seen some people just breezing through it like it's nothing, and I can't help but figure I skilled wrong. Any tips are greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

My tip for you is stop trying to spread your points and focus over so many different skill types, you are in danger of becoming a jack of all trades, master of none, as the saying goes.

For instance, from your list of spread levels, i run the same character and only have levels built up on, ardent flame, draconic power, dual wield and heavy armour.

Due to having a small focus group at game start and levelling my chosen few traits, my abilities advanced quicker and have morphed substantially. which now lets me see connections between abilities for damage bonuses, which in turn is letting me breeze through bosses and enemies of much higher level.
Condense your efforts and focus on mastering your small group of chosen skills to begin with and try to find the links between then abilities and passives which work together.

there are a few threads on here you can search for on character builds in case you are unsure.

looking at your points it seems you have been running skills from draconic power and earthen heart line combined with dual wield or one hand+shield.

The main issue here is that you are likely mixing magica abillities with stamina features.

I think the first choice one has to make when it comes to a build is wether to run focussed on stamina or focussed on magica.

Class skills and staffs scale typically off magica.
all weaponskills (besides staffs) scale of stamina. Stamina is also used in sprinting and in blocking.

The issue is that staff dps is scaled of your total amount of magica and e.g. dual wield swords dps scales off your stamina as well.

So it is best to specialise in either stamina or magica, to max out your default dps, depending on your weapon. Further. While both increase dps (if using the right matching weapon), they also have a secondary effect.

Stamina increases your ability to block. This makes stamina builds better for tanking.
most healing skills scale off magica. This makes magica builds better for healing.

So, being a dragonknight that prefers dual wield (dps) and one hand + shield (tank), I think you should prefer using pure stamina. That means that you should use the skills from dual wield and one hand + shield for your dps. The class skills are excellent for support (e.g. fiery grip to pull foes to you, and green blood dragon to restore health and stamina), but due to your low magica, not good for sustained dps.

On the other hand, you are a dunmer. So that means you racial skills are build for magica-dps. So if you want have good use of your dunmer abilitties, you should run a magica based dragonknight. This means running with a staff and using mostly class skills or staff skills for dps. You could use a restoration staff for self heals when playing solo, but in coordinated group play, dragonknight dedicated healers are a bit frowned upon.
