Why launch?

With games like WoW, LOTRO, SW the Old Republic and even on consoles, games like Destiny, there should be no reason I sit at the load screen literally for a half an hour and then 20 mins in get kicked. If the game or the servers arent ready, why launch? It's annoying enough when regular games launch and on day one need a patch or update but this affects regular, everyday gameplay. I understand when something like this launches there's going to be bugs and glitches to work out but there are too many games out there to have learned from for things like this. If you're not ready, dont launch.

Postponing this any longer would have been a big no-no. They already pushed the release back one full year. Besides, I bet they didn't know they were not ready. Without a stress test for the server, they just had to take a leap of faith. It didn't work, and they could have done better preparing for launch, but they probably thought they could pull it off.

Yeah, true. 40 min and counting at load screen so far. Waiting out of sheer curiosity now. I hate playing on a pc so I was excited for this and it's frustrating but you're right. They probably thought they could handle it.

Why didn't they do a stress test btw? I believe they had one for PC.

My brother and I were finally able to get in a decent play session last night for a few hours. Had to reboot once because some shop npc's didn't load for me. Then wait in queue for 10 mins or so. Pretty good leap from what we were able to do the day before in the same time. That's noticeable improvement. They'll get it. We'll try to save a few mobs for you to kill when you finally get on.

I take it you haven't played many mmo's at launch, Warcraft was unplayable for a week.

Warcraft was unplayable for a week.
    Better than a decade ago
SWTOR , I was in first day
EVERY major MMO I've played in was first day, no problems
    Destiny, first day
Neverwinter, not sure when it launched for the One, but zero issues with that so far
Queues are of course to be expected, but brushing this off like "This is typical with MMOs" is just flat out ignorance
Bethesda is a large enough company they could have afforded to test things out. They just did not.

Bloodand bourbon, no i really haven't because I really don't like pc play. I like controllers and very few work well with a pc controller. I understand your point but that was also my point. WoW came out years ago. There has been a lot of games to draw from and not make the same mistakes. We should be at the point where these kinds of problems are minimal.

You want them to test it out before release? They can't just get 1 million + people on to stress test the servers before the game releases. That's unrealistic. Neverwinter had the same issues when it launched Day One (and even to this day sometimes the game crashes and kicks you out). It's commonplace for a lot of MMOs, especially when it just launches. There is testing to verify just how many players are trying to connect within the first week so they can adjust the server capacity accordingly. All they can do is estimate beforehand to forecast how many will connect but cannot realistically prevent all issues.

MMOs typically get these issues sorted out within the first couple weeks because it may not be even stress tests and server capacity this is the issues, but also network coding which is an entirely different animal. That takes some time to refine once the game launches and can't exactly test until a launch happens and have the entire community test it out. So issues like these will be resolved within the next coming weeks.

All you can do is be patient. Fixes on programming and server testing don't happen overnight. If you pay attention to news from publishers/developers of MMOs within the first couple weeks of almost any new launch, you notice a trend that server and networking issues are their number one priority to get fixed from launch, which takes time.

At least you got in for 20 mins I tried for 3.5 hrs and couldn't get past the loading screen emailed 3 times no response. I tried restarting my system multiple times and nothing worked. I wish I could have played for 20 mins. When you do get on it's an extremely fun game imo, but that's only if you can get on.
