Accidentally gained a bounty on my head and the consequence seemed extreme... comments/feedback?

They need to put a sticky up to explain about killing guards or healing anyone fighting a guard!

But I so love sitting in town watching these people get slaughtered!

Hlaadriel - thanks for reading my post and responding. Good tips.

Spottswoode - thanks for responding. My main point was that I had no intention of any harm, I was a newbie to the scenario and in barely a moment had 2 deaths and 90 mins of inactive game time. I also had insufficient funds to pay the bounty (though I was already on KOS anyway).
I think your response was a little tired or slack, perhaps because you have been active on other bounty-related issues before now.

This is a common complaint about the "Justice System." There are two toggles you can set, one for stealing and one for attacking innocents, but they are enabled by default. There is nothing warning you about this, and many people find out the hard way.

It's a common theme with this game though, the rules \ mechanics are not very well explained, and you end up having to peruse a lot of fan based content (some of which is old \ wrong) in order to really understand the game.

This happens. My bounty was for killing a chicken while trying to complete a combat related quest in Stonefalls. Nuked it with my fire staff while battling an npc.

That's why it is important to turn off auto loot and killing innocents. If you really want to kill that chicken you can turn it back on and then off again. It's a bother but you know what you did and why. It's kind of like slaughtering bunnies in Skyrim but with consequences. I don't like the lack of fair warning that came with the Justice System either.

On the other hand, players seem to resent any hand holding on the part of a game so being killed by the guards for breaking the law and not being able to kill them just makes the consequences more real and also curbs the violence inside the cities. After all, the cities would be a battleground if the players could slaughter the guards as easily as the chickens and there are plenty of bandits around to rampage through.

I'm just glad I discovered the PC add-on that won't allow you to accidentally steal, at least I won't have to worry about that anymore. Turning off Auto-Loot only works to avoid stealing multiple items, but my problem was going up to talk to an NPC that was near a table of wears and accidentally clicking the 'E' key too quickly and stealing something off the table.

Sorry for you guys that run into this. ZOS should have defaulted the attacking innocents setting to Off instead of on. Small, simple, easy fix that we asked for pretty much as soon as Justice System hit along with a better explanation of the way it works.

    We got shrugged off.

    Bassackwards ZOS, man.

Just let a guard kill you. Bounty will be gone and the gear repair will be at most 50 gold.
@leshpar Not if you don't have enough gold to cover it.

See, I had no idea of this. I only found out once someone told me the other day. I really thought they only took your stolen items. I didn't realize they also took your money. O.o
