If you start out in one alliance you start in a certain part of Tamriel but how do you get to the other parts of the world? Do you just play the story and eventually it will take you to the other parts where the other alliances territories?

    You go through your faction zones, then Cold Harbor, defeat Molag Bal, then proceed into Cadwell's silver & gold (veteran levels) which take you through the other factions zones.

    Two ways. Get to level 50 with your character and finish the main quest will unlock the other faction areas and you will be able to play them as a veteran rank (VR) player.

    Secondly, you can create another character in another faction and play that faction from the beginning with that character.

    For example, i have 3 main characters, one in each faction. I also have a dedicated PvP character that has been running through the VR levels.

    All it takes is time ...

    Once you beat the game (complete the main storyline, not main faction storyline although you can do that too and I recommend it) you'll be able to go to one other faction's area, depending on which one you started with. Once you beat that faction's main faction storyline (there'll be a guide showing you which quests to do to do that when you get there, called 'Cadwell's Almanac) you can go the third faction's area.

    The order depends on which you started with.

    DC -> AD -> EP

    AD -> EP -> DC

    EP -> DC -> AD

    You got it on your first guess!

    It takes a while though - you have to complete the main storyline (you should hit level 50 around then, which puts you at Veteran Rank 1) before going to your second alliance's zones. These zones are called your Cadwell's Silver zones. Once you complete those zones, you'll be able to get to your third alliance's zones. These zones are called your Cadwell's Gold zones.

    Alright, is there enough quests in the beginning alliance to get me to 50?

    26 hours level 1-50 your original faction.
    35+ hours for the second faction areas VR 1-6
    35+ hours in the third faction VR 6-11

    40+ hours grinding VR11-VR14

    Yeah, if you do all of the side quests in each zone. There's no in-game way to see which quests you haven't done but some offsites have a list of where to find one if you miss some. Also, the achievements tab with questing achievements always has one '[zone name] adventurer' you get for completing x amount of quests in each area - to get those you don't need to do every quest there, but most - so getting that achievement tells you at least that by then, you should be good to go on the next zone in terms of quests (if you've completed the main zone storyline there anyway)

    Alright, if I'm lvl 10 is it a good idea to play some PVP also? Do you earn XP in that?

    Not enough I would say time wise 1hour of PvE = 9 hours of PvP exp.

    Lol jeez that is a bad ratio. Is the main thing in PVP the alliance battles? You just fight other ones?

    Not sure what you mean. All the servers (vet/non vet) are the same place with the same alliance battle.

    I would at least do the PvP intro quest, you get some good XP and skill points out of that. There's also at least 3 skyshards in the general area.

    My dedicated PvP character went to Cyrodiil at level 10 and there's still a lot of fun to be had, as long as you don't expect to win a 1 on 1 with a VR14 player.

    But you do get scaled up in terms of stats, which makes normal keep battles survivable. You can just hang back and use ranged attacks or siege weapons. There's lots to do in PvP even at low levels ...

    I'd keep in mind that the ratio he gave is likely assuming that you'd be speeding through all pve content at the speed of light, skipping all dialogue, etc. So if you don't intend to skip everything the ratio wouldn't be as bad. If you are just speeding through it all then yeah that could be accurate, idk though I don't pvp.
  • xNaughtyNinjax

    I really think it is as bad as 9:1... I would say with normal PvE speed... my 4th play through I would say 20:1 I leveled 1-50 in 27 hours doing all the quests in my faction and VR1-2 with the main quest/mage and warrior quests.

    True to a certain extend. But like i said, my main PvP char went to Chillrend (Vet campaign) at level 10 and it was still a lot of fun to play there. I stayed at Chillrend until level 35ish before switching to the non vet campaign.
    Not because of the difficulty but because my faction pretty much abandoned Chillrend. Now that my char is in the vet ranks, i'm back in a vet campaign.

    It all depends on your expectations. I was never looking to be the king of 1v1 so running in a vet campaign at lower levels was fine for me.

    Hang back, do a lot of ranged attacks and AOEs, get to know your fire ballista very well and try to defend anything that is under attack. That'll keep you busy for a while ...

    I wonder how CPs will effect PvP as well because if you have an alt with 200+ CP they will be very powerful compared to a level 10 without CP.

    I also played low level PvP on a vet server and while it is ok to get kills in big battles its really hard to win one on ones because at level 10ish your dont have the right number of skills to compete.

    Sure, it just depends on who you run into. Most of my fighting in PVP has been very small scale. That's probably because I don't really do PVP though, and the only reason I go to Cyrodiil is to do PVE stuff there (quests, delves, dolmens), so I'm more likely to run across a lone enemy player, or a small group of them than I am to end up in a large battle.

    Heck, last night I ended up in 3 consecutive one on one duels in Cyrodiil. Started when I attacked a lone enemy player that I saw in a quest hub. Immediately after I killed him I got jumped by another one (who I assume was a friend of his), and immediately after I killed that guy and I was starting to run away I got jumped by a third one (who I also assume was a friend of his). I have no idea if they were intentionally going after me one at a time to make it fair, or if they just couldn't get to me in time to gang up on me. I have to admit I was pretty proud to kill all 3 of them, especially the last one who was VR14, while I was only VR7.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Most of the battles are massive zerg balls of 40+ per faction trying to take a target location. If you are in the PvP zone for PvE I get in more 1v1 1v4 battles ;)

    Amsel is a grinder, his list of hours is right if you find good grind spots and do nothing but that. Take your time, you'll enjoy the game more imo and not end up bitter like him.
