Feel bad for the OP, who is going to get scolded by snobby, old fashioned MMO players who will probably tell him to "go play Skyrim, this isn't Elder Scrolls 6" blah blah blah.

Anyway, welcome to ESO... LOL! Don't worry, it's a great game, and there is much fun to be had in spite of all the MMO crap.

Why in god's name would you choose to buy and play an MMO if you don't like MMOs. That's like me buying Call of Duty and being mad that it doesn't play like a MOBA. "Once you look past all of the FPS crap you might actually enjoy it."

Yes, but this *IS* an MMO. You share your game space with other players.

Yes, and that's great. Elder Scrolls fans begged for YEARS for an online, multi-player version of the game. What we didn't ask for was months long VR grinds, group-gated, solo-impossible content like Trials and all the lame MMO mechanics like rubber-banding mob aggro.

Games have levelling. MMO's have group content.

As for the rubber banding, I have not had that in a long, long time.

@60 gb it might as well be a single player game. This is the 1st mmo or online game for that matter that i have ever played that kept so much info on the client side.

Having played the game on both pc and console i am pretty impressed ZoS was able to keep the graphic decent on the console (of course pc will still be superior, master race and all that), but even @30fps its not bad and I actually like the console ui a little bit more. However, without the research assistant and shopkeeper addons quite a bit of old school pen and paper will definitely be a necessity to avoid a panic attack.

The controller isn't too bad during combat, but would be nice to remap the buttons. Outside of combat the keyboard and mouse is much easier to use to navigate inventory or shops.

The console is superior for party chat for 1 reason everybody has the same setup so grouping with randoms is nice and simple without having to dl multiple voip or waiting for a chat response. I always seem to get stuck with the guys who can't type or constantly uses full sentences.

This is the first ever MMO I've played and I have to admit, I was impressed at how beautiful the game looked aesthetically. As a huge fan of many role playing games such as The Elder Scrolls Series (of course), Dragon Age and more, there were a few things that I found weird. To me it feels like being always online is a problem. Sometimes I want to explore places by my self without hundreds of people doing the exact same thing. It really breaks the immersion aspect which is the main point of an RPG to begin with.

The game's open-world environment is beautiful on console (ps4) and even the most basic armor sets look amazing. The physics on the other hand is pretty basic and combat looks kind of goofy but I guess its alright for an MMO. I'm not complaining though. Its a pretty decent game.

Nature of the beast. MMO by definition means Massively Multiplayer Online and has people, a lot of people. But for us who love playing MMO's, this is good thing. I particularly like the dungeons are open like the old school MMO, not instanced like the new school, and you will often see others in them. with them occasionally assisting. This can add to the social experience MMO's have always had, good or bad.

This game was made to be a RP game, but then they messed it up. For example when you have to go inside a building and kill this one dude on 2nd floor. Yet someone is up there fighting him and before you step one foot on stairs you get the notice you killed the guy go see blah blah. That ruins the whole game for people right there and ZoS has done nothing to fix this in over a year.

I bought Elder Scrolls Online because what I wanted was Elder Scrolls.... ONLINE. I like having a persistent game world populated with live players, and I like interacting with those players from time to time. And for 90% of the game, that's exactly what it is, and it's great. It's the crummy 10% I'm complaining about, mostly because it's just so unnecessarily unpleasant. ZoS could have Trials scale to small groups or solo without ruining the game for big groups, and they could have PvP duelling arenas, too, for players who want to have a fair fight without joining a zerg guild.

Believe me, nothing would make me happier than if they remade Morrowind and let you play with a group of 4 or so people, and I 100% agree with the need for smaller scale PvP, especially since what they have now is a total train wreck.

ESO does have the best 1-50 leveling in any MMO I've ever played, but there's definitely a lack of repeatable content once you're done leveling. There's really nothing left to do in that regard, I agree.

The main story yes that is solo that is your personal quest.
And yes some players might be on different phases of some quest that can be a bit of a pita.

There are many places you can group with friends of any level, delves are one, get your friends together go in get the achievements, great group fun. Doleman's are another thing you can do, there are many things you can do to improve your immersion, and feel more rpg, this game just dose not hold you hand getting to them. I have played mmo's for many years I find this game no more or less rpg than any other mmo/rpg I have played, but I guess to each their own, hope you find a good balance and enjoy the game the way you would like to. I am happy I can play with my friends in an Elder Scrolls world.

Think of it like a huge maple tree that you have in your backyard. If all the ants start climbing up it at the same time its packed. Once everyone starts to branch out into all the different storyline/quests/regions and develop at different paces you will start to see less people.

Ok, I have to admit that this has to take a prize for something.

Yes, and that's great. Elder Scrolls fans begged for YEARS for an online, multi-player version of the game. What we didn't ask for was months long VR grinds, group-gated/solo-impossible content like Trials and all the lame MMO mechanics like rubber-banding mob aggro.

I find that looking at this from a different angle can help. In a single player TES game, when you get bored you start a new character, which opens up the complete game for replay. If you are on a moddable platform, you can look for new areas and quests that can be done and add them to the game.

For a TES player ESO, what I find to be the answer, at least initially, is to create a new character in each faction and go through them natively. I have resisted the urge to level through Cadwell for that reason. Once I have completed all three Alliances natively, I might be more interested in Cadwell. Thus, my advice to people who are coming from TES games is to hold off making the Veteran character until you have one in each Alliance. This gives you three largely independent plays through the game with new content.

Since MMO games never start over, you have to keep an eye on that "Dead End" sign at the end of the ESO content. That means resisting the urge to rush to the end of the game. There are a number of things that can be done in the game besides leveling a character. Level crafting, hunt for treasure maps, get all of the questing and exploration achievements, become a notorious criminal, tackle all of the world bosses, hunt Generals. Do these things while you are leveling, not after you get to the end and are looking for something to do.

For the TES players that are just starting out, my answer to boredom is to focus on 1-50 in all three Alliances and don't rush to the end of the game.

We discussed this back in PC beta. We loved all the delves but hated the fact that other people were there trivializing the challenge and experience. We had wanted them to be instanced. I think ZOS wanted it open to promote grouping but honestly they are trivial even solo. I personally would prefer to have the option to enter it solo and have some sort of challenge.

generally the world of MMORPG's hasn't had much to make it traditionally an "RPG" in decades at this point.

Try not to let that bother you and you'll love the game regardless.

As others have said, it will get better once launch week is over and as you move to higher level zones.

And it really does grow on you after a while. I spent the open beta weekends thinking of all the ways this game wasn't TES, and now I really enjoy the experience.
