Why are Crowns more expensive on Xbox One?

BlockMate
BlockMate
So 750 Crowns will cost you £4.79 if you try to purchase from your ESO account website, which I assume only work with the PC version. I logged into my Xbox One earlier ready to buy some Crowns and the price for the same 750 Crowns was £6.39.

Assuming this must be a mis-price, I didn't buy any. I haven't seen any explanation or reason for a 28% price increase; have you?

Is there a reason why they cost so much more?

Because... Microsoft. Seriously, it's probably because they are taking a cut of the transaction. Like you said, purchases from the ESO web site are only for the PC version, so on the console you are going through a third party for an in-game transaction.

If that were the reason, then an ESO+ subscription would cost more also, surely?

For sure, I don't think any one was overlooking Sony. The OP asked about Xbone, hence the comments about Microsoft. PS4 players are in the same boat.

Depends on the deal made by the 3 firms.
I suspect they agreed that the actual cost of a sub would be the same as if someone signed up directly to the site.
However, the sacrifice made by Zeni was that M$ and $ony could add "x" amount to the cost of crowns as that was the more likely to increase their revenue stream over and above individual subscriptions...

So buying them through the website is only possible for the PC version?

I'm glad I saw that, I would have assumed it would add them to the account and then they can be spent on any version (like how you have your unspent crowns on both EU and NA servers but can only spend them on 1).

Is there a warning somewhere for people who might make that mistake?

    I'd imagine....

The subscription is treated as a "recurring" payment for a "service" (not a piece of dlc).

Where the crowns bought individually is treated as DLC where Zos said they want X amount of money per item and consoles then tack on their fee for hosting the items on their stores(servers).

May be off, but prolly closer then not to the truth!

$ony and M$ gonna get that vig.... one way or another!

Thinking about it, the way they've priced Crowns, there is no point in buying them.

1500 Crowns cost £11.99! Why would you buy that when you could just buy a one-month ESO+ sub for £8.99 which gives you 1500 Crowns also, plus additional benefits?!

After some more research, I'm convinced that these prices are a mistake.

GAME are selling pre-paid Xbox (and PS4) Crown cards for the same price as PC Crowns:

    http://www.game.co.uk/en/the-elder-scrolls-online-tamriel-unlimited-1500-crowns-642520

From experience, these code cards just credit your Xbox account with the balance that you paid (in this case, £8.99) which would actually leave you unable to buy the 1500 Crowns it claims to be.

    This is pretty confusing now.

Ofc, did some expect something else?

Zos sell the crowns to M$ and P$N, they resell them on a higher Price´, to get some Profit, actually Logical.
You buy Eso+ directly from Zos so they can sell this without a cutoff from others.

So M$ and P$N sell the crowns with a cut of from ~25%.

Sadly consoles will always be more pricy then pc. For pc the patch and such go from the dev team to the user. consoles go from dev to xb/sony then to user. thus extra steps and extra charges.

ok.... checking into this.... This might just be a VAT or currency conversion issue.

Checking the US XBL marketplace yields this pricing structure....

    C750..... $8 (.+50)

    C1500... $15 (-/+)

    C3000... $25 (-5.00)

    C5500... $40 (-15.00)

Looks to me that the more you buy.... the more you save!

Doesn't look to me that M$ (not sure of $ony as I don't use them, but the pricing should be close) has hiked the price up at all, except for the smallest quantity (750 crowns)

So, this has to be an issue of currency conversion or VAT addition.

Seems to be exactly the opposite on PS4. Crowns are the same price as PC, but ESO Plus is £9.99 instead of £8.99.
(Also I was trying to look up the Crowns for Xbox online, but I see no add-ons at all. How do you get Crowns and ESO Plus on Xbox?)

ROFL we tried to warn you guys. At least they took my idea and are trying to push people to sub instead of just buying crowns. But it wasn't meant for consoles I wanted them to do it with PC/MAC.

They are on Xbox.com here, but in the game you can buy Crowns and/or subscribe to Plus from the Crown Store directly.

I contacted Xbox Support and at least they replied to say to take it up with Zenimax, who I can't see responding to me.

Here is an updated graphic showing the 750 Crown price on PS4, PC and Xbox One stores:

It was my understanding the consoles only sell the 30day, and not the 90 or 180 days ones which discount per month.

Ah yeah, that's it! Shouldn't they all be listed in an add-on section under the main product page though? Or do they only do that for 360 games and not XbOne games?

The details of the deal will be wrapped in red tape and legal mumbo jumbo. You would not get a statement from ZOS on this, it would be biting the hand that feeds them.

If you go trawl the net there are other examples to be that back up the answers people have already given you. You will either have to make peace with the sense that people have provided you with here or go research it to come to your own conclusions.

All I want is for them to confirm if the price is correct or not, especially given that you can buy code cards for the lower amount.

While the lowest tier on xbox one did show a little off balance between the purchase and crown price, I didn't notice anything amis on the higher tiers they look like they give you a proper crown amount per purchase. 1500 crowns = $14.99 which is actually what I'd expected.

So not really worried about it here in this house honestly.
