I've yet to join a guild and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what to keep in mind when choosing a guild to join?

    Hey!

As a guild leader I know how to welcome new members and have a guideline that followed when I joined guilds at launch.

    The Guild Advert
The guild advert is your first introduction of the guild and the most important factor. A good advert represents a good guild

The guild advert should always be as long as the chatbox lets you have it. A guild with a simple "New guild, join now" will never be worth your time as it shows they are not putting effort in. Most guilds will use achievements to lure members in (Emperor achievement, Trials speedruns and more endgame content achievements) if you are the type of player looking for a hardcore endgame guild then they are what you're looking for but if you are looking for a nice, chilled social guild then maybe its best to avoid these people. Many guilds suggest they are the best guild around or will make sly comments against other guilds to try and get members, avoid these guilds as leaders who make comments against others will cause drama and this is not needed. The best advert to look out for is a well structured one with good grammar and clear writing on elements such as guild name, member count, what type of guild they are, teampseak/no teamspeak, age and what they are looking for.

    The Guild Itself
Maybe you wanted to give a guild a test run or it seemed good to settle in? these guidelines should help you to see if its worth you settling in the guild!

Keep an eye on their Online member/Total member number. A guild with 20 online members at peak time with 300 total members is not worth your time. Check their message of the day and about us section, if its full with rich information on the guild then they obviously value their guild and put effort into it. See how active the guild chat is, if its a bit dead at peak times then maybe they use teamspeak. If not then it is probably not a very social guild. Check the ranks and who posses them, you'll want to chat with the higher ranking members. Ask the long time members who are high up about the guilds history and how its been since they have been there. Have a discussion with the officers. officers of a guild should be friendly and welcoming to new members, they should also be very informative so make sure the officers posses these qualities as a guild with bad officers is normally a bad guild.

I hope you find a guild that you can enjoy the game with :)

I think that's up to you.

A guild is basically a group of people who talk and play together. So think about why you want to join a guild, what you hope to get from the experience, and then go looking for a guild that can provide that.

There are two kinds of guilds, those you are involved with, and those you are associated with. And, yes, those can over lap. But what I mean is Lone Wolf Help for instance is a guild for solo players that sometimes need help. We run events but have no activity requirements, just have fun and help someone out if you can. Other guilds have more stringent activity requirements but those tend to be the ones that run PvP and Trials. However, it make sense that those types of guilds would want you to spend time on activities with the Guilds. Lone Wolf Help does run PvP, and we even have a Keep too, and we are starting to do Trials, but these are not the focus of the guild.

You can always drop a guild that you join, so its not like you are ever stuck with a choice you make. So, try some out, stick with the ones you like, and leave the ones you don't.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

A guild should suite your needs and play-style, and what you're looking for. Do you want a guild dedicated to PVP and/or PVE? Do you want a guild with an active chat? Do you want a guild that holds regular events? Do you mind joining a cross-faction guild?

You can join several guilds and you can leave them at any time if they're not what you're looking for with no penalty. I myself are a member of two guilds WEB (active guild, weekly events, great community, a mix of vets and low levels, multi-faction), and The Nephilim (active guild, less chatty, PVP, Pledge guild, and EP exclusive). Links of these guilds can be found in my signature and if you wish to join them why not send me a message in-game "@Molag-tibs".
