ON ESO Live yesterday they said they would be releasing more info today about being able to pre download digital copies of the game etc.

So I guess .. watch this space!

On the official Elder Scrolls blog, Bethesda explained:


“ESOTU is an incredibly massive game, both in terms of sheer scope and the data required to bring you this truly enormous experience. At the moment, the client will exceed a 50GB Blu-ray disc which means there will also be a large day-one patch that is somewhere in the region of 15GB.”

This day one patch has been rolled out alongside the 39GB game client for the beta and so those looking to play the TESO beta (which Bethesda also says is the full game experience and not a pared down trial) will have to download the entire 54GB package before they begin playing.

Ah, that's both interesting and useful to know.

My main question over these past few days has been whether or not digital pre-loads will have a 15gb day one patch too. Seeing as it appears that the client with patch is 54gb in size, that would mean as an Xbox One digital player, I already have the entire client and patch installed and ready.

(Although I guess maybe a minor patch may appear before release).

I think the blog attempts to clear up your question
And the June 4 live session together cause me to feel the following:

The game is 39gig and the patch is another 15 gig
The digital game per the Xbox one store is 54 gig

So everything in total is 54gig + a few minor patches shared during the twitch live broadcast yesterday

The pre load includes all but any minor patches that are new
I'd assume the patch is no larger than 3-4 gig based on the PC patch sizes recently

Thank god I'm going to have a Disc so I can just manually install the 39 - 40GB client then patch it with the 15GB patch.

You could've started downloading the XB1 version on May 25th. That'd be 15 days to download 54 GB (that's even enough time for a less than 50kb/s connection even) and you'd play it at midnight on June 9th. The way you're doing it, you won't be able to play it until the 11th or something due to 15 GB patch you won't be able to get until the game is out and you have the disk in your console. Now if you're on PS4, then you could start downloading it today. If you have a steady 200 kb/s or higher, that's still enough time to hit the midnight launch.

That being said from today for either console: If you have a 200kb/s connection or higher and can always have the download going, you'll still make the midnight launch, and is the better choice.
