I also keep finding ESO advertisements on the cheap banners of random websites, but I don't remember 4/4/14 getting that much hype 14 months ago.

This is the Google Trends result of > elder scrolls online < since 2013. You can notice a peak in april 2014, when ESO was released.
The levels reached today, even if they are slightly increasing are only reaching about 20% of that peak.

This is the Google Trends result of > Tamriel Unlimited < since January. It reached a peak last month but it's back to a normal level now, which means it's not increasing in spite of the huge media coverage.

Advice to ZOS:
Console release won't save the game. You should focus back on PC.

I'd also point out that there is alot of people like my brother who has pre ordered the ps4 version but doesn't use the net to search it lol.

You will find alot of console players just buy the game and play it bud. :D

If its no good they return them within 7 days to get another game lol.

At no point has Elder Scrolls Online reached a higher popularity than Skyrim.

Bring us Elder Scrolls 6 already.

But still i love eso but i know i woulf probably put it down for good when eso 6 comes out lol.

That's actually trending up quite well.

It's typically for spike in search at release of game, then it generally drops off and continues to drop off.

Console release isn't "release of game". See people are already aware of ESO and aren't hopping on the net to find out more.

The fact that it is now trending up at all (it is quite a bit actually), shows the media coverage is working.

*Note: I do agree console probably won't "save the game". But because people aren't searching Google for it doesn't mean they aren't waiting to buy or haven't pre-ordered.

    Just look at SWTOR:

I think a lot of it has to do with the buzz surrounding Witcher 3 release and also the HUGE clamor created recently over the unofficial confirmation of Fallout 4. (in addition to other games)

Its also possible that people aren't being taken in by the bait-and-switch: "here's the same game with less features (chat) and probably the same amount of bugs". Consumers are a lot more savvy these days. I never would have bought a console xfer if I knew they were going to literally rip out one of the most important features (chat) a few weeks before launch. Who does that? Other than people determined to self-sabotage.

agree. and after trying witcher3 ,well it is a very serious contender..considering the fact that they plan on releasing many dlc's this year and all for free in an open world which is already sooo big , it's a real competition.this is not good for zenimax, and i fear witcher 3 will damage eso sells on consoles.
imo zenimax should consider releasing dlc's soon, even together with the release of xboxone and ps4 ,in order to keep pace and create a strong buzz.

To be fair the 4 DLCs (out of 16?) so far are:

    A vendor suit of armor
    More haircuts for main character

Alternate look for main female lead.
A single quest (don't know how involved it is about lost miners).

Good stuff, but not a new zone etc.

I haven't seen any "huge media coverage" for the console releases. No one in the gaming press is even talking about it. And the only ads I've seen for it have been links to TESO videos on this forum. Even the Elder Scrolls podcasts aren't giving it much coverage. Elder Scrolls Off the Record devoted maybe 5 minutes to talking about it last week (out of a 2-hour podcast). And most weeks they don't even mention it.

Contrast that with April 2014, when I remember seeing ESO ads on mainstream TV shows and blanketing every gaming website. And back then everyone was talking about it too.

I seriously doubt Bethesda is even thinking about Elder Scrolls 6 at this point. It's probably not even on their long-term "to do" list. Right now they're focused on Fallout 4 and Doom. I wouldn't expect a new Elder Scrolls game before 2018 at the earliest (if ever).

Well it does make sense to focus on other titles and let eso carry the banner as long as possible.

Fallout 4 is my most wanted game as fallout is just an unreal title.

Yeah, am mostly just sticking around here these days because it happens to be the only Elder Scrolls installment my girlfriend and I can play together. When the next single player game drops we will likely both be out of here adventuring side by side on single-player campaigns.
Love Elder Scrolls Online, and have multiple thousands of hours invested across my eight characters. It just isn't something that pulls me in how the single player games do -- often when my girlfriend is at work, fire up Skyrim, Oblivion or Daggerfall (<3) and play that rather than running solo in ESO.

The reality of the situation is quite likely that when the next single player title drops this game will more or less dry up -- perhaps they will tone back servers and run as a small-scale f2p, but unless Console really turns things around it is just a ticking clock until TES6.
On the other hand, this gives Fallout fans something to look forward to at E3 with Beth apparently having an RPG lined up -- do not think they would announce TES6 and hammer a nail in the ESO coffin right around console launch.
My policy is just going to be to enjoy the remainder of my time here and not sink too heavily into the Crown shop. Maybe set that money aside in advance for computer upgrades in a couple years.

Just enjoy the ride while you're on it I suppose.

    Sure, perspective is everything
    xY4USG2.jpg

But Skyrim is biggest name in the Elder Scrolls series, so it is kind of the benchmark to choose to compare to ESO in terms of the health of the series itself -- at least if the perspective is not focusing on the MMO side of things.

The next Elder Scrolls title was in their long term plans the day Skyrim was released and certainly after it sold 20 mln copies. Games are planned long before the production starts. In case of Bethesda Game Studios, their next game - likely Fallout 4 - is in late production stages, so there's already something else cooking in pre-production. Unless it's a new IP, what other option do they have except TES VI? Hint: it isn't Doom, Doom is developed by Id Software.

Yeah the next ES game is already being worked on probably. What are hey on a 3-4 year cycle?

Sure ESO will take a hit when it comes out. So they give it 2-3 months then release a new ESO zone. All MMOs have cycles based on content. People bail out of WoW for every new MMO fro a month and a half.. .then usually wander back.

ESO is currently in a lull because console delayed all the new content a lot. People will come back for new zones... play them 2-3 times and then wander off again until more new content come out.

I know a lot of people that juggle 3-4 MMOs based on content release.
