Will I Be Banned For Using This Wireless Mouse And Keyboard Combo?

Hello sorry for the newb question I wasn't sure on the answer to this, but I recently purchased this wireless keyboard and mouse for basic computer uses along with gaming such as ESO. I however could not afford an actual gaming accessory though so this was the most expensive I could do. I really love this new keyboard and mouse and just want to ensure using it in ESO won't get me banned. I don't believe it has any programmable keys, or anything that could promote automated actions as mentioned in the code of conduct. Here is the link I would much appreciate a moderator jumping in as well to explain if possible. Also as a side note I purchased it at my local Walmart, not online. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Logitech-MK520-Wireless-Keyboard-and-Mouse/15105368

As long as it doesn't macro and automate any form of gameplay. Or, if it does allow you to make macros, as long as you don't use them in game. you should be fine. I'm not a ZOS employee though but that's pretty much the same for any online game regardless if MMO or FPS or whatever.

your keyboard can be programmable keys you just can't set up macros and use them for commands in the game. The actual keyboard and mouse themselves are irrelevant. :) Enjoy your new mouse and keyboard!

So does that mean it's fine to use in game?

Yep. Just don't macro things for combat. That's against the rules.

that keyboard and mouse isnt even capable of programmable keys.. since its not even properly suited for gaming at all but i guess everyone has their preference, still i dont recommend it.. you could look into getting a cheap microsoft sidewinder keyboard and a anker/logitech g600/razer mouse

    Hello @Casdha !

To clarify this a bit, using a third party program - in this case it would be your keyboard's profile software - to perform any game function is a violation of the ESOTU terms of service.

The phrase "change the game play experience" includes having third party software macros that automatically perform emotes. The game play experience in this case would be that it is designed to have you - the player - performing these actions manually, and by using a macro you are changing the game play experience.

Using macros, and using unapproved third party applications, programs, scripts or any other game modifying mechanic is a violation of the Terms of Service, and as such continuing to do so would put you at risk for having your account actioned.

Molly also posted again a little later in that thread.

[EDIT] Oops sorry. The previous threads linking weren't there when I loaded into this topic.. lol.

My wife stopped using her wireless keyboard and mouse due to lack of game responsiveness. With the game lag and the wireless delay(little) it seemed like spells were really delayed. If you notice a difference, go back to a wired setup.

I once thought that keyboard and mouse did not really matter much, a few months ago I bought a
expensive razor keyboard and mouse with the green lights and it is the best thing I have upgraded to my gaming / playing experience. I play in the dark and the underlit keyboard is amazing. The programming ability of the keyboard and mouse is useful for me because you can make a key that you use a lot (like inventory) the #1 key on my mouse. Or making one of the buttons on your mouse the switch weapon sets so I dont need to hit the ~ key

Thanks to everyone for the reply's. I would purchase a gaming mouse and keyboard in the future, but at this time they too expensive for me, and the lower end cheaper ones just don't interest me. I would prefer to get a Logitech gaming Keyboard and Mouse in the future as I personally love the Logitech brand, never had an issue with them, and are very dependable for me at least. I needed a new keyboard and mouse that day, due to the fact my cheap $5.00 mouse and $10.00 keyboard was really worn and malfunctioned occasionally. The battery power is kind of short, but not surprising since I keep forgetting to turn them off at night.

Set your PC to go to Sleep after say 30 minutes of inactivity. It should reduce or eliminate any power draw by the mouse/keyboard. I had a wireless for years and replaced the batteries about every year or so.

Note, if you do this, make sure you set the Monitor to never go to sleep. One, if the PC goes to sleep, so is the monitor, and two, it can make waking the machine back up again an issue as the video card may never initialize again until you restart the system.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

The general rule of thumb in MMO companies, and ZOS is no exception, is...

    "One key press, one action".

In other words, if you set a key to simulate pressing your normal "sneak" key, that's fine. But, you can't set a key to simulate sheathing your weapon and then sneaking in one keypress as that isn't normally doable in-game. One key should equal one normal button/key combination for one in-game command. :)

Stick to that rule, and you are golden to use any keyboard and mouse you want :D.

Keyboards don't beep... PC speakers do on older computers. And N-key rollover, or at minimum 6-key rollover, is extremely common even on inexpensive USB keyboards nowadays, including the set the original poster bought.

It may not be the best keyboard but if you did not notice the op did state that it is what he could afford. Not everyone can drop 60 bucks on a mouse and 80 or more on a keyboard to play a game. Course if you wish to make a donation I am sure the op, not to mention myself or anyone else for that matter, would object.

They rant and rave about not using marcos in game, but I'm curious of they would ban someone for setting up a keyboard macro for something completely harmless. By harmless I mean something along the lines of:

    "enter key"
    followed by
    "/g2' or "/zone" or "/say"
    followed by
    "enter key"

Basically a macro that allows you to easily change chat channels. Is this sort of thing against the rules? It's a quality of life improvement. There are addons that allow you to set up macros. Are those against the rules too?

I would imagine they'd have a cow over a macro that switched your weapon, fired of two heals in a row and switched back to your primary weapon with one push of a mouse button. That's a combat thing that changes the game play.
