Deactivation of fraudulent accounts

Just as a reminder, if you find ESO for sale for significantly less than $60 on any site besides this one here or through steam... chances are VERY high the game key you got was stolen or in some way obtained fraudulently. Do NOT use other sites! Buy through steam or through zenimax to play ESO.

Some cd key sites are perfectly fine, just don't chose those that tend to sell accounts
ZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing

    I don't think it's as simple as 'if it's cheap it's stolen'.

I got the game for £12 from a 3rd party seller on Amazon back in February and it was a genuine, boxed copy (even had the Explorer's Pack included) which worked perfectly.

Of course I took the time to make sure what I was buying was listed as a new, sealed copy, I'd get the actual box instead of just a code sent by email and the seller was well established with good feedback (98% positive with the only negative reviews being about unexpectedly long delivery times).

I'd say it's a matter of using a supplier you know you can trust and using some common sense to look out for anything questionable. For example I found one site that was only offering account codes and said you'll have to find somewhere to download the client yourself, and another where their copies of ESO looked legit but they were selling a lot of other stuff I knew shouldn't be on offer, like established accounts for other games and in-game currencies for real money. I avoided both.

I agree with you Danikat. With a little common sense its easy to determine what is legit and what isn't. I, however, work customer service. I don't think most people have enough common sense to fill a jar. >:)

I do wonder though, how many accounts were deactivated.
Far too many characters to list any more.

Through real life contacts, I know of 10 deactivated codes so far. I'm sure there were a lot of them if ZOS felt the need to send out a message about it.
Foräois - Imperial Sorcerer of Ineptitude.
Widoch - Nord Dragon Knight of Ignorance.
Billy Bob - Dunmer Templar of Chicken and Noodles.

Very bad advice. Anyone who takes this advice would have to avoid all retailers, even reputable ones.

    This thread should be deleted.

The thing is, this only applies to stolen Steam keys, not stolen box editons. I don't suppose ZoS can detect those? :/ I kind of hope so so that they can be deactivated as well, but I don't see how it'd be possible, considering retailers can't open the boxes to record cd keys paired with the fact they get no list of shipped cd keys neither.

Everyone I know that bought a non-Steam ESO cd key for $15 or less from (removed the site name, let's just say it's the most well known shady key site) or similar sites did NOT get their account deactivated, and the article itself says only steam ones.

If I got my copy free in a back alley market, do you think it'll be ok?

The guy said it was definitely real as it fell out the back of an ESO delivery van.
Who has time? But if we never take time how can we ever have time?
