Sure! But they would have to go under the armor, like clothes normally would...
:-P
I wear regular clothes in town. If I decide to go into battle with them, I am aware that my armor/stats are suffering.
What would be nice is if we could collect say 5 or 7 clothing pieces and then could turn them in to exchange for a costume to wear. Sure, this would have to have limits in the exchange (as the possibilities are endless) but 10 or so outfits could be made up in combo.
Oh, wait, we have a Crown Store now that sells costumes. Forget I said anything...........

exact same reason a separate slot is needed for the Ring of Mara. It ruins set bonuses otherwise.
plus I don't know about you but last time I checked I have 8 fingers. seems a shame to only be able to run rings on two of them.

And I'd looove it if the non-armor clothing had some noncombat boni on their own... say, wear nobles dress and get store discounts (since shop owners will be extra forthcoming to try and gain a reguklari costumer in that well dressed and rich looking person), wear priest robes and get less bounty (because you look so pieous and holy in the guards eyes), wear craftsmen clothes and you get a bonus to, say, tempering success chance (right tools for the job and such), wear beggars rags and you get a stealth/pickpocketing bonus (since noone really looks at the beggars) - that sort of thing...

Wont happen.
Crown Store would lose money.
If they sold blank costumes you could build on your own then maybe.
Blank costume + Pants + Boots + Shirt.. Set it in the blank costume.. Then we got a custom costume.
This would not take money from crown store.

I would like to see wardrobes handle like they do in RIFT; they used tabs, so you could setup multiple wardrobes and then select the tab you wanted to wear. The first tab would contain your stat armor and then additional tabs would contain your cosmetic armor/clothing.
