What is Brigandine gear?

Just updated my clothier skill I can now use Topgrain and Kreshwood. I have a clothier writ that wants brigandine gear??? What is this??? Is this a bug???

    Everything up to this point has been named after the material they're made out of (eg Fell helm).
    Why the sudden name change? Is everything at vet level like this now?

    Of course, if you want to know what brigandine is/was in the real world, wikipedia has a brief primer on it:

    Notably the protection that it gave was from metal plates, which makes it a little odd that in ESO it's made from animal hide...

    ZOS definitely like their medievalism. I wouldn't have learnt what a "jack of plate" was if I hadn't been curious as to why the medium armour chestpiece is called a jack
