Is Lag Fixible

Jochamo
Jochamo
Other MMOs I've played, lag was present or it wasn't. However, the ones that had lag never were able to fix it.

Is it a limitation on the software model chosen, or can it actually be fixed?

Sadly, it's probably not fixable, just like your thread title.

Depends on your source of lag.

In Cyrodiil many get lag on certain servers during big fights. It's a known issue that hopefully Zos will figure how to correct it.

In PvE, most of the time it's not due to Zos. It's the Internet of issues. Some I play with have lag often due to bad internet connections between them and the game servers. Others like myself have a 50ms ping and rarely have lag in PvE.

What lag are you speaking of exactly OP?

Cyrodiil performance is bad for some people. ZOS is aware of this. Not sure if it`ll be improved drastically any time soon. Personally I have more time without lag in Cyrodiil than I do with it. I believe some people sensationalize the issue out of frustration. Lag is virtually non existent outside of Cyrodiil.

This might be the case for you. I also don't think people sensationalize the issue because there's nothing to sensationalize or to exaggerate; at certain times, the lag couldn't be any worse.

The same goes for PvE (outside of Cyrodiil). During the few weeks before update 6, that means before the maintainances became more frequent, often the lag was so extremely that I could see a casted spell only between 10 and 30 seconds later on-screen although the enemy was dead already.

If you don't get any lag, then you're lucky.

Please let me apologize for my misspelled thread title.

The lag that I experience is currently in PvE, and is being experienced in world and dungeons. This is not unique to me in the situations I am experiencing lag, as the people I am playing with are reporting the same lag issues at the same time I am experiencing mine.

For what it is worth, I have not had issues with my internet connection before, and have no reason to believe that my connection is at fault presently.

It's not you Jochamo. There have been complaints about PVE lag for over two months since 1.6 was put into place. It's not an individual ISP issue as people from all over the world are experiencing the exact same lag in ESO at the exact same time. It doesn't matter where you are or how fast your connection is. For those that say they don't get lag, go into Darkshade Caverns on Vet mode during peak hours and you will see what people are complaining about. When your whole group can run up to a boss, stand there for 10 seconds before any of the NPC's acknowledge your presence, it's not your ISP. It's server sided. This can be seen most of the time at the first boss.

PVE lag is probably some noob trying to overload the server with some noob attack that hasn't worked since 1998. There's always the token raging hacker wannabe, right? I HATE YOU I HACK YOU NAO L33TL0L.

But PVP. The problem is, apparently, ZeniMax envisioned a game where you go around Cyrodiil fighting with melee, stealth, or bow attacks, when the reality is everybody just goes around spamming Magic Missile hoping to hit something.

There is no easy fix for that, especially how Cyrodiil is a big quest/exploration zone inside a big PVP zone. You can't make stam-only or magic-only campaigns. You can't shrink the map. You can't retroactively kick out non-Veteran players. You can't disable chat. You're going to lose balance, happiness, and customers through any attempt at a fix.

Yet they can't remove it, tear it apart, and rebuild it, either, because Cyrodiil is an established part of the game for many people. ZeniMax is just going to have to accept the criticisms that Cyrodiil is a bloated, messy, frustrating design. Because it's been that way since beta, what with the "LAAAAAAGGGGGG" comments constantly on chat.

I would say I'd agree that if you had a constant ping of 50ms lag shouldn't be an issue, but ping isn't constant. I have an average ping of 50-60 before I use to log in, then it would shoot up to 120-300. Some of it is a bad internet connection and or client/server issues.

Depends whether or not ZoS wants to dedicate a lot of time and resources into figuring out why and then fixing it.

I can say before 1.6 my average latency was 50-80 on any given day (other than zergball PvP). Since 1.6 im averaging 90-150 latency, between 120-300+ in Cyrodiil. With no changes through my IPS, modem or router, one would assume it's on ZoS' end.

The latency problems are probably not fixable. I don't understand how people tolerate it. I log in and I'm astounded to see people trying to struggle through playing. (speaking of PvP)

Honestly, I think in many ways this is the worst game I've ever played. Sure, I really enjoy it sometimes.

It's like some giant greasy fast food hamburger that you eat and then regret. You enjoyed it, but it's horrible, and you hate you ate it.
