Gamertags/PSNID's will display instead of character names on console: Your vote?

EDIT: NOTE - This is not at all related to floating names that can cause "Screen clutter", or anything along those lines. Please don't vote unless you understand what this thread is for.

It's been confirmed that character names will not display on console versions.
From the ESO Live Q&A (http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/1797630#Comment_1797630):
Why is my gamertag displayed instead of my character name or UserID? – Lots of console beta testers
~
We display PSN IDs on PS4 and gamertags on Xbox One instead of character name or UserID to be consistent with the already established social mechanisms available through Microsoft and Sony.

Bad move ZoS, bad..... Neverwinter, FFXIV and many other console MMOs for XB1 and/or PS4 display character names by default. There's no reason you couldn't. Saying it's to keep consistent with Microsoft of Playstation mechanisms is just..... a lazy excuse. Like the lack of text chat support, this will completely KILL any role playing because people can't have the names they want. Instead of an Argonian named "Takes-In-Light" in a roleplay, it could show as "xXxSwagMasta420xXx" or something.

What is your thoughts on this?

Very bad decision, character names should be shown by default, like FFXIV, Neverwinter, and countless other MMOs do.

You CAN, but it just will only show in NPC conversations, no where else it seems. This is exactly as it was in the beta.

I'm not sure it was up to ZOS based on what they said on Twitch Live Friday.
They said it was inline with how other console games display character names.

    BUT
The names are on console, they just don't show up when you're looking at a real person.
If you mail, group, guild, etc the unique character name displays and is on console just like PC

Which is flat out untrue. As I said: FFXIV, Neverwinter, and many other games on both consoles display Character Names by default, not Gamertags/PSNID's. If every single one of those other games can do it, then there's no reason ESO can't either.

It was definitely up to ZoS, and they elected to show Gamertags and PSN ID's over character names.

I don't mind this, I intend to play some of my characters on XB1 and when I named them on the PC last year, I never imagined some of those names would be used on a version of the game where there is no text chat. I'd rather people call me by my gamertag instead.

Correct, it's only when looking at them or the indicator when a real person is using their mic.
It's exactly like any other console online game.

Ie: Diablo 3 allows you to give each character a specific name but when online other people see your Gamertag

The difference on this game is when you socially interact outside of voice chat you do use the specific character name.

Examples of specific names seen on console or when required:
    -Emailing a character in game
-After grouping (both the unique chat name is seen in some screens and gamertag in others)
    -Guilds " "

But that's your XB1 handle, not necessarily the ESO account name right? Meaning that a person could have a different ESO name and xb1 handle/psn name?

Been playing on PC without character names for over a year and I can say without question I haven't missed them. Granted, other games I usually turn them off as it's just screen clutter.

Granted, I usually recognize characters I am grouped with and it takes me just a second to check someone's name if I am interested.
