Why is my gamertag displayed instead of my character name or UserID? – Lots of console beta testers
~
We display PSN IDs on PS4 and gamertags on Xbox One instead of character name or UserID to be consistent with the already established social mechanisms available through Microsoft and Sony.
It's been confirmed that character names will not display on console versions.

Bad move ZoS, bad..... Neverwinter, FFXIV and many other console MMOs for XB1 and/or PS4 display character names by default. There's no reason you couldn't. Saying it's to keep consistent with Microsoft of Playstation mechanisms is just..... a lazy excuse. Like the lack of text chat support, this will completely KILL any role playing because people can't have the names they want. Instead of an Argonian named "Spears-In-You" in a roleplay, it will show as "xXxSwagMasta420xXx" or something.
What is your thoughts on this?

Wait, what? You can't create an individual name per character?

They said it was inline with how other console games display character names.
So how are you going to find that certain player character you need for trade or something?

They said it was inline with how other console games display character names.
BUT
The names are on console, they just don't show up when you're looking at a real person.
If you mail, group, guild, etc the unique character name displays and is on console just like PC

@ZOS_JasonLeavey Directly said that they display Gamertags and PSN ID's "instead of character names", which is in complete contrast to what your saying is on the Twitch thing.
Clarification as to what we'll actually see on launch, please?

Look above. The OP and comments are lacking details from the actual game and what was presented and clarified on Twitch Live the last two sessions + actual BETA gameplay

I would assume the @<insertname> would show up right? I mean you do have to have an ESO account name created to play on console right?

So essentially it will be exactly as PC is now with the exception of being able to see the unique character name while looking at the physical model of the character? You'll only see the @NewBlacksmurf for example?

The @name is the Gamertag/PSNID itself on consoles. My Gamertag is actually Zazaaji, so I will always show up as @Zazaaji in ESO on XB1, no matter what my character name is, if Jason Leavey's post is true.

But that's your XB1 handle, not necessarily the ESO account name right?

That's not correct. It only applies to the visual outside of party, group, guild

@NewBlacksmurf So while grouped, you'll see the unique character names in the upper-left corner of the screen per basic UI layout as usual?
