Weapon damage question

Hi guys,

So I'm dual wielding atm, I find that it's got the highest damage ability of all weapons, the one with 6 slashes. Err I have two daggers, each around 450 base damage + enchantments. My question is, do I use up enchantment charges on my weapons when I use a dual wield ability?? Does it even matter what kind of weapon I have in my hands or is the damage listed on the ability the same so long as you've got that type of weapon equipped??

Also, I noticed people using the term AoE when searching the forum for questions like this. What does that stand for?

No idea.

AoE means "Area of Effect" - An attack that effects multiple opponents at once.

Example - Whirlwind/Steel Tornado/Other morph

Yes, enchantments on both weapons with proc and charges used.

I believe you do use the charges when using abilities, yes.

Any weapon attack can fire the enchantment (so long as the internal cooldown is complete).

This goes for Light Attacks/Heavy attacks and weapon skills.

Also, and I don't know if this was ever fixed, but it used to be that you had to put different enchants on your dual wielded weapons, otherwise the second weapon's enchant would never proc.

Good tip milthalas. I think I would always use a different enchant on the second weapon anyway, just to spice things up.

Does anyone know how do you find out what the cooldown is for weapon enchantments?? My current daggers do something like 120 shock damage or similar, how long do I have to wait before it fires off another shot of 120 shock?

Also, if base damage is 450 and shock is 120, does that mean I do 570 damage every time shock goes off?

if you hover your weapon, there's a blue bar just below the weapon title. it shows you your current charge. if it runs out, you need to charge it again with a soul gem.

and yes, it procs every time it's used. in any kind of attack. I think....


and no it doesn't add up. your basic damage is being affected by your armor rating, while the extra fire/shock/whatever damage is by spell resistance. so it's not quite the same.

I think it is 30 seconds for the Cool Down. There is a trait that reduces this amount of time. There is also an addon that tells you when the CDT is up.

Also, not that one of your blades will hardly ever proc an enchant. You will see this in the difference in Enchant Charge between the On-Hand and Off-Hand. Two ways to look at this, you can either not waste a Kuta or Rekuta on one of your enchants for one of your weapons, or you can swap them between left and right hand if you don't have a filled soul gem to recharge with.

As for the math, your pretty much right, the raw damage output is added together. But, since we only get a proc every 30 seconds, which is like once a fight in PvE, then it's really a once a battle type of thing. I never rely on my enchantments to do anything for me, just have gratitude that I got some extra damage in during a fight.

I mean, think about it, 400 points of extra elemental damage is not that much damage to a mob that has 15,000 or 60,000 health points.

EDIT This also makes enchantment effects like Poison or Disease better to use as they give an effect over time. I think Disease even slows down or reduces the capabilities of the mob, but not sure on that.

Must be why one of my weapons always has about 95% charge on it when the other one is drained.
