So, I was thinking about start fishing...but reading about it...I feel like Im gonna need tons of hours and tons of baits. Im.seeing posta talking about needing 700 or more baits to get some kind of fishes. Thats insane and not funny at all.

So,it is that hard? Is there some EU fishing guild?

It is not 'hard' but you will probably find yourself tearing your hair out at times as you burn through 100s of bait looking for that elusive 12th fish in a region.

My advice - do it now and then as you roam Tamriel and have built up stacks of bait. I've taken that approach since launch and have about half the achieves and at least a handful of fish in each region. Enjoy it but I think focusing on it would cause sanity degradation.

Fishing with friends will bag you rare fish at higher rate. The real trick is knowing which bait to use... Check the book in the game...a guide to fishing in Tamriel, I think its called... Or check guides. Basically it's worms for the sea, insects for running water like creeks and rivers, and guts for ponds and lakes. I find fishing a pleasant distraction and a great little addition to the game.

Getting baits... Guts is easy... Kill animals like sheep and rabbits. Worms are a little rarer... Get em occasionally picking plants. Insects like torchbugs and butterflies are all over the place. And you can buy baits as well, but I haven't tried that yet.

Everything you need to know about how to fish is in this guide.

As to why fish, and the experience, only you can judge for yourself. There are dyes, achievements, and a much sought after title to be had from fishing. Fishing is a good way to help explore Tamriel, as it will require you to scour everywhere for fishing holes. If you focus only on fishing, it can try your patience. Making it a part of your routine as you quest and explore will make it relatively painless. Catching fish is all about RNG. Just like Collectibles, it can take 1 or 10,000 casts to catch a particular fish. All main baits can be easily collected except worms. If you consider fishing, save any worm you find, and start checking guild stores for cheap stacks of them.

There is a recent thread asking about which is the best title to wear, and even though Master Angler was not a choice, it was the overwhelming favorite title. Having earned it, I will say it is not the most challenging title to get, but it does take a huge investment of time and patience and luck to earn. It is the only title I wear.

Why do people climb mountains, hike the Appalachian or Pacific Coast trails? Or a thousand other crazy, boring, challenging activities. I could never build a ship in a bottle, but some people do. I bet they get an enormous sense of satisfaction upon completing one of these. Our fishing game is like that....it appeals to certain types, and completion is it's own reward.

It's too bloody difficult, I couldn't get one fish out, the line kept breaking when I tried.

The only good thing from fishing I can see is you can make food that gives a decent max health boost, but I'd rather just find fish elsewhere, those deserted camps often have it. I even snatched a fish that the Prophet was roasting over campfire in the Harborage :-)

For me, I either fish with friends, or when my fishing character is questing, she'll stop at fishing holes she comes across.

Once you start fishing, you'll just keep collecting bait and that's going to be fine. You'll have more than you need.

We have an EU fishing guild: Abecean Sea Anglers. You can find other players working on their achievements there and maybe we can help you out with the fishing bait items :)

Contact info in the recruitment thread :)

Master Angler will take some time though. Expect to spend about 150 hours fishing :)

I don't think my total time invested was very high for the Master Angler. But I never fished allone, since your dropp chance inceases a lot. I don't think I use more then 3-4k on each bait.

I allways had a group of 2-3 people to fish with.

But it also took me about 6 month to complete because not everyone wants to fish all the time

Not difficult, but time consuming like nothing you've ever tried. The mechanic itself is pretty lame and is the most boring part. If you do decide on going for the swaggiest title ever, then you should go to Darth's website, it has everything you need to know: http://eso-fishing.weebly.com/

I started fishing because at this point it is the only thing I have not done in the game except for becoming Emperor and because the next actual content update (Meta content does not count!) will probably be at least two months away.. /sigh

When it seems fun, I fish.

Drove my sweetie bonkers by casting in a line in the Wayrest sewers of all places. In fact the whole group went a bit wild - "You can't possibly consider eating fish from this kind of water"

It was pretty fun to cause so much drama by throwing a line in .... although I did stop

Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

That will happen until you get your timing down. Watch the bobbin, when it gets pulled under water, then try to reel in the line. If you do it before, you lose your bait, if you do it too late after your bobbin goes under you lose your bait or you get used bait. Once you get the timing down, you will catch fish on more casts than you don't.

Also, if you see used bait, take it, or every fish you catch after will be basically used bait.

To get on Teamspeak with your guildies who are also fishing, get drunk (there are different rules on who has to drink depending on whether you catch a green, a blue, or a wet gunny sack, as well as other rules related to what words you can't say etc) and have fun.

Anyone who is taking that much bait to catch one particular fish has one (or more) of the following problems:
    • They're using the wrong type of bait for the water
    • They're trying to catch a rare fish that is bugged and not appearing (there used to be some that were bugged, but I don't believe there are anymore)
    • They're reeling in too early
    • They're fishing in the wrong type of water for that fish
    • They're always fishing alone instead of with other people (even then it shouldn't ever take that many casts to get a particular fish unless they're also doing something else on this list)

On a similar note, how come fishing guilds aren't more popular? I never see them in any zone chat. I could see them being rare, since it's a bit of a niche, not mandatory thing, but still, I'm not even sure they exist.

Fishing was an option in Everquest in 1999. It is nearly identical to that system....some 16 years later. Has potential, but is just silly.

Have a quest where NPCs are looking for specific fish and in return give experience, gold, some mats, something.

My guild that I fish with isn't specifically a fishing guild. We just happen to have fishing events (along with a bunch of other events) on a semi-regular basis, and they just happen to be a lot of fun :)
