Why are so many Templar skills casted/channeled and/or have a delay?

Only in PvP, where you can get by with Empowered Ward and a few potions. Lack of healing makes the Sorc harder to play in PvE. My V4 Templar can self-heal in combat at several times as much HPS than my VR14 Sorc just by casting Quick Siphon before hammering the target with Biting Jabs. Sorcs didn't suck so bad before 1.6, but the cooldown on Critical Surge heals changed everything.

Well, you can have your old Critical Surge back if you trade in your power in PvP.

Traditionally, balance is achieved by:

Tanks - Kill opponents slowly, but mitigate opponents damage;
DPS - Kill opponents quickly before they can kill the player;
Healers - Kill opponents slowly while healing through the damage.

In ESO, however, the class doesn't define the character. The selection of weapon skills, armor skills, racial skills, guild skills, and class skills defines the character, making it next to impossible to balance.

However, Templar offensive capabilities are either hampered by cast times/channeling or are DOTs, and Templar healing skills are HOTs... so if a Templar is relying at all on class skills, it's going to die. The opponent will kill the Templar before the cast skills/channeled skills/DOTs can kill the opponent and the HOTs can't keep the Templar alive.

So, [sarcasm] the solution is to make a Templar that doesn't use any Templar skills...[/sarcasm]

I've got eight characters; two of each class. The most frustrating class to play by far is the Templar. Sorcs and DKs are easy mode...

honestly unless it's interrupted if you attempt to move, it's instant cast.

According to Cinbri in this thread, even some of our "instants" can be interrupted. Can add Purifying Ritual to that list.
