Second account on NA server - Do I need to buy the game again?

I just want a second account on the same (NA) server so I can have 8 more chars to play with a friend. DO I need to purchase another copy of the game?

So in other words, we cannot connect the same game copy to multiple accounts? What if we wanted to disconnect our accounts and resell our game copy used; is that possible? What if a Steam player wanted multiple accounts; would they then have to buy another copy outside of Steam?

If you want more characters than 8 on the same server then yes, you need to purchase a second copy of the game (including any upgrades like Imperial edition).

Alternatively you could play on the EU server and gain 8 more characters this way. But this would necessitate a second install of the game files (thus doubling disk usage) and also you cannot transfer anything between characters on different megaservers.

Not sure about the Steam bit BUT your game copy has absolutely no resale value.....

Each copy of the game comes with it's own one time unique Key Code once that has been used the copy cannot be used by anyone else.

That depends on what you mean by connect it. You cannot make two accounts using one disc/game key, but you can play different accounts from the same installation.

For example me and my husband both play ESO on the same computer, using the same install files. We just have to put a different username and password in when logging in. But to create both those accounts we had to buy two copies of the game, because to create an account you need the code that comes with the game and each code can only be used once.

That's not possible. I have seen second hand copies of the game on sale, but unless the account key hasn't been used (in other words the previous owner never even set up an account) it's completely useless.

I've never used Steam, but here's what I found on the Support site: "Players can purchase more than one copy of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited using the same Steam account. However, only one copy of the game can be linked to one Steam account. The "Purchase for myself" option will only be available for the first copy, and then it will be greyed out leaving only the "Purchase as gift" option available for the other copies. Additionally, it is not possible to add multiple copies of the same game in the Steam cart."

Basically when you buy a copy of the game the main thing you're getting is the account key which allows you to create an account and log in to the servers. The disc to install it or a link to download it is secondary to that.
