What powers destruction staff from armor

if you look at some of the guide you would think spell but i have read posts where they say weapon damage is more significant

Weapon damage used to be significant before 1.6. 1.6 re-aligned staff damage with spell damage and spell crit. 1.6 changed so much of the build mechanics that you can't trust anything posted prior to March 2015.

Any skill that uses magicka scales up off spell damage and max magicka. Any skill that uses stamina scales up off of weapon damage and max stamina.

Ulitimates scales off the highest stats yes, so magicka/stamina, spell power/weapon damage, spell crit/weapon crit.

If you use destro or resto staff you want spell damage and spell crit.
If you use two-handed, bow, dual wield, sword&board* you want weapon damage and weapon crit.

*With S&B the damage from the weapon skill damage is low so you can also use spell damage/crit for stronger class skills.
