Matt Fior has told a journalist that they are looking to implement a quick chat system in response to a query about the removal of text chat from the console version of the game. No details seem to have been given.

That's been mentioned before. It's not necessarily new news to the whole debate.

Since that interview, he's also said that they are reconsidering text chat. So we're still waiting to see.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

The quick chat should be a very considerable addition as there are a lot of potential buyers who have expressed wanting something more so maybe those buyers will want this.
I enjoyed the game play as it was and didn't feel text chat was needed but the idea of a quick text chat using the emote wheel will be a welcomed addition

Can't wait to get going June 9th.
Nothing new tho but as long as text chat isn't added I'm good
    -but that's just my opinion

Pick a side and meet us on the battlefield in Cyrodil June 9th!

I agree with @NewBlacksmurf. The ESO UI is unique enough to change the experience just enough to make me eager to give it a go.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

Sooo instead of just adding the chat logs back, theyre gonna create a whole different system.
    Sounds. ...efficient
Oh well guild stores took a few tries. maybe 1 day we can even set withdraw limits for guild bank/members?

At the main topic of this post:
The quick select chat system, which is confirmed to have already-made "common" phrases, sounds questionable to me if it's enough to sway me to buy the console edition again. I'll need to know all the phrases to be included before I can decide if it's enough to be suitable.
However, if the ability to create your own quick-select chat messages with a few 8-way analog shortcuts, then I'd definitely buy it again, as that'd be enough for me. They already had the emotes selectable onto an 8 way analog choice like this, so they can definitely add custom made phrases too.

    Also, just pointing this out:
The article was published 12 hours ago. Have you got a source for the reconsideration?
The article could have been published several days after the interviewer asked the interviewee that question, it's not mentioned when he asked ZoS that question, not when ZoS's answer came in, yet everything else has an exact date. That's kinda..... weird.

Yes no date on when the interview occurred I was just pointing out it was a recent article as to why it was relevant. The author was obviously in beta and read the beta section at least.

My question was genuine I haven't seen anything from ZOS where they have said that they are reconsidering including text chat so if @ruze84b14_ESO or anyone else has a source for ZOS saying that they are reconsidering on text chat a link would be appreciated :)

    @Curragraigue
The customer support email I got on 4/29 is the source of that, I posted it in the now closed console text chat thread (bolded relevant parts):
    Hi ,

I'm really sorry for the delay of answer, we have been quite busy lately.

We are well aware of the feedback regarding the chat on console and even though it will probably not be available at the release, but this is something we are considering thanks to the feedback from the players as you just did.
Regarding your second question, there is no plan to remove the text chat from the PC version so you don't have to worry about it :)

I hope I answered to your questions and concerns and I wish you a great day.

    Warmest regards,
    Yoann
The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited Team

It very, very directly and clearly states that they are reconsidering adding full chat support again.

It's a small group of players almost entirely PC based. As Zazaaji said, it wasn't related to the topic.

Count? Yes. Are traditional MMO players the target audience? I don't believe so. But that logic seems to be very hard for those who have PC origins to understand.

Console players won't feel betrayed by a lack of text chat, in my opinion.

Having text chat in a MMO isn't a purely PC origin issue. DCUO and FFXIV are both on console with text chat. If you look at FFXIV and the fully customisable HUD and ease of access to both voice and text chat it looks light years ahead on customisable communication systems for console compared to ESO.

If they want to try something different and go only voice chat it is going to alienate some people. I personally think the poll that uberkull did is useful because the importance or relevance of text chat to the game for console is something that people that have been playing the game for some time are more likely to know. I did the FFXIV beta and hated text chat because coming from a console multiplayer background I was only using voice chat. Having played ESO for a year now I still prefer voice chat but I've come to appreciate the benefits that type chat has and the importance it plays in some elements of gameplay, particularly in Cyrodiil for the Alliance war.

Could a quick chat resolve some issues, probably given the right means of communication and selections to choose from. Is it likely to assist with everything that type chat currently provides that voice chat can't, probably not imo.

I cant believe they removed it in first place. ESO is going to attract all kind of people. Of course there needs to be chat.

Btw. it happens already in PC too. Theres two kind of people in Cyrodil, those who prefer TS-raids and those who prefer text-chats.

So long as I can turn the voice chat off I might get it. It'd be nice to have quick chat or a chat box but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I just don't use voice chat, don't want to, don't want to hear it, but if I can atleast turn it off I'd be fine playing completely unable to communicate with anyone. I'm a solo player anyway.

There is such a lack of credit being given to players being able to think outside the box.

People complain about games being clones of other games. Then when a game steps out of the box, these same people cry fowl; "you can't change that!".

I hope Zen sticks to their vision and leaves it out & doesn't let some high pitched vocal minority ruin something that could make this game unlike other world reducing, faux MMO lobby games. This game could be unique, Imagine that... You may have to travel to a (gulp) city to trade? Oh heavens... you mean I may have to speak? Out loud? Mercy...

Most console players will not use text chat. This is a non issue. And giving a global or zone wide advantage to the minority of players who would use it is one of the worst mistakes that could be made.
