Please do not add alliance change

HerrRhodes
Just so you people know, if ZOS adds an alliance change option, then everyone will flock to a certain alliance making pvp near impossible along with oyher things.

Nah, it actually would even out. Most pvpers like to be the underdog. Since its more challenging. So a lot ppl would use this to switch to the least populated faction. That's for PvP only.

In pve it would give ppl more freedom. A lot of ppl rerolled to different factions due to reasons. My self included. These ppl leveled new characters, but have to leave their other chars back. These chars will not get played anymore. As I can speak of myself.
Thus is such a waste. I have 2 v14 chars that are useless. Both chars did all quests, got all skyshards, crafts etc. But they won't get touched anymore. I would wanna get them in my alliance I play now. So I can use them. Besides for crafting. I have 3 vr14 chars. 2 of em are useless.. And relevel all of that again, no sorry. Especially the crafts, achievements, quests and skill levels. Many ppl can't be bothered anymore.

Easy, make it with a 30 days cooldown before the next change.

Why take away what might be useful to some just to limit someone whose intentions aren't good?

I'd go further and make it a one-off chance. This would allow you to join your friends in another alliance, without enabling faction-swapping.

Or make it quite expensive, so people will think twice about necessity.

I didn´t know about cadwells silver/gold when I started the game so I started two chars in two factions to experience the different quests until I found out about cadwells. Now one char is stuck at VR1 in an alliance I don´t feel allied with. Would love to get him over to AD.

But I am curious - you think they could manage to prevent this getting abused as a all races in all alliances feature?

I think the crown cost of an alliance change - if it ever comes -will be tremendously high (just look at what dwemer style costs for example...). So I don't see why it should not be allowed...

I guess there is a technical issue about how to manage quests if you change alliance and that might be difficult to deal with. I don't think it's a priority for them and I am not sure if they have stated anything about it.

Ya people need to realise that being able to change alliances is actually a GOOD thing.

    - People that want more of a challenge will flock to the weaker sides
    - People that want to play with friends but can't currently without rolling an alt will have the option to do so
    - People won't feel trapped when deciding on a faction because they can change it later
    - Find an awesome guild you want to join, but it's the wrong faction? Np! (been there myself)
    - PvP WILL get better.

As long as there are checks and balances put in place, everything will be fine. For example, when I myself suggested we have an alliance changing item in the crown store, I suggested that a 60 day lock be placed on anyone changing alliances. That way people still need to consider the choice carefully, but aren't unduly penalized if they dislike the choice later on down the road.

I also like the suggestion that @xMovingTarget mentioned, requiring players to have completed cadwells gold is an excellent idea.

There are many reasons why this is a good idea, the very least of them being, it would be a wildly popular item in the crown store making money hand over fist.

I'm kind of torn on this one. Personally, I don't want to change alliances, I like my choice and would feel like a traitor changing lol. But, if balance is needed, it may be a needed option - if players on one alliance are sitting in queue every night of 100 people, they might be willing to even things out. Plus, if they make it expensive enough to change, then it will be something people carefully consider instead of doing willy nilly.

Another game I played before ESO had a group PVP event with 2 sides - the guild you were in determined which faction that was. That would be fine, except there were a couple of PVE dungeons only the winning alliance from the PVP round could enter to get specific loot and gear tokens. It didn't take long before guildmasters started stacking to one particular faction, to ensure access to the PVE dungeon afterwards.

The more hardcore PVP guilds eventually switched over to the underdog faction and things started balancing out. However, I can foresee the current ESO PVP population imbalances getting much worse with alliance change options, especially once the Imperial City comes out, since PVP map control is a requirement for access to that zone.

Personally I consider alliance change a good thing, for all the reasons already mentioned. I was unaware of the cadwells thing when I first made my characters, so I also made some DC and AD alts - if I could, I would let them switch to concentrate all my characters in EP, it certainly would make campaign selection a lot easier... as well as some other things, guild stuff and such. (and since my mains are always dunmer, EP it is for me. besides, I like their storylines best!)

...naturally I would very much prefer if it was not done with an OoC "buy to switch" consumable, but with an neat in-game quest taking your character all over your alliance and beyond, with an "loyalty called into question" theme and a big choice in the middle - either people could choose to prove their loyalty to their faction despite the lack of trust the leaders would display, or they can choose to make preperations for a defection to a different faction, and the second part of this quest will change depending on what choice is made.

It definitely ought to only become available after completing cadwells gold, the matter of unfihished quest-storylines and map access might otherwise make things difficult.

It could also be initiated by using a item that people need to buy in the crown store, further limiting accessibility to faciliate the peace of mind of some people who now fear "switching alliance every week like some cartoon mercenary". And naturally the game developers might in this case give out free versions of this, once (it -would- make a good addition to the "completing cadwells gold" rewards... or a bonus for TU-plus subscribers... just thinkin' ;) )

For the fear of people switching alliance for PvP reasons... well, there could be things done to balance that too. Like, say, halve all AP gains for a "defector" for a while - if they would have to expect spending the next three months at half reward status, PvP-fanatics might think twice about switching for campaign strategic reasons...

I'm torn on this issue, because I pretty much have my 8 character slots filled with what I want to play. All but 3 are DC, and currently I have 2 in AD and 1 in EP. If anything I might want to move my first AD character (khajiit magicka templar) to another faction as I don't think I want to level two characters in my least favorite faction (as well as already having done so through veteran ranks). But I'm not sure if I want yet another DC toon, or maybe just transfer him over to EP, which I prefer over AD?

So I can see using this service just for this one guy, but I'll have to put some thought into it.

I don't agree with making a faction change reliant on cadwells gold and I will say it has bias on my part. I have a v7 in AD that I can't play anymore without spoiling the EP questline which I am currently making my way through. Given the extreme wait we have for any new zones I've been taking my time.

I would say that the requirement should be level 50 and completion of the main storyline quest and be an actual quest rather than hitting a button. Once you complete that quest and have chosen to defect, all available questlines that may still be open are abandoned so I don't see unfinished quests as a negative. Every zone is equivalent in vet ranks so if you defect at v3 you're dropped into the v3 zone.

The other idea is that defecting could potentially reset cadwells silver and gold making it worthwhile for v14s to swap as they would be able to repeat the content for champion points. You would need to start them with both silver and gold already unlocked to give the players choice. In fact, I would say the only way you can reset the cadwells questline is if you are v14 which would reward players for sticking with it without penalizing those who wish to change earlier. I will soon have three main characters (one in each faction) and have no interest in PvPing on the ad side, only having to manage two campaigns for my DC and EP characters would be a godsend without forcing me to level another character.

I also agree with the concept of a long cooldown timer to prevent FOTM flips, but I'm not actually concerned about pop imbalance from this. As with any new system we will see an early burst of people trying to game the system, but that'll balance out with a little time.

Ultimately, I'm not OK with a feature being ignored or passed over simply because some people will try to take advantage of it while there are many more than that who would happily make use of the feature as intended. It could be a boon for the crown store and would benefit everyone.

I think we really need this in the store.
I don't see why there would be any quest problem since we have to do all quests of all factions anyway.
As for the balance, lot of game have found the way to balance the migration either by making the cost quite high, or by adding a pretty long cooldown to it.

So please ZOS, cosmetics are nice, but people are asking for a lot more than that.

I believe this is a rabbit trail from ESO Live, where they dropped a high probability of race respec options in the future. No other details were given. As such, people immediatly jump to the worst case scenario and describe exactly hat they don't want to see.
One might see this is doomsdayish but, sadly, it does seem to be the most effective way to ensure player opinions on future content isn't "misunderstood", as some decisions have been in the past.
