Proof PC Controller Support Is Coming To PC?

So, i was looking in the UserSetting file that is located in The Elder Srolls Online/ Live Folder for a way to adjust my volume above the current set volume since it was playing to low even when my computer was turned all the way up, when low and behold i seen these settings

SET VoiceChatAutoJoinChannels.2 "0"
SET VoiceChatEnabled.3 "1"
SET LuaMemoryLimitMB "64"
SET GamepadSensitivityFirstPerson.2 "0.72000003"
SET GamepadSensitivityThirdPerson.2 "0.85000002"
SET GamepadInvertX "0"
SET GamepadInvertY "0"
SET GamepadVibrationEnabled "1"

To me this can only mean one thing.. a Gampad ( controller) is going to be supported in the very near future.

Please comment what you think below ?

As it stands now TESO does not have native support on PC for controller, you need to use external programs that are confusing for novice users.

Confusing? Download the program, download the proper profile, and launch the program & profile before the game. Very simple. If you can handle the complications of PC gaming you should be able to figure out a basic controller support program.

I even created my own custom profile for ESO, making the controls very similar to many of those in Skyrim.
It still requires some basic keyboard input but allows you to disregard the mouse & keyboard for the majority of the functions.

Only problem I have encountered (and cannot seem to fix) is that when I experience any form of lag it makes the motions of the mouse (via controller) considerably worse. Switching back to the regular mouse (without disconnecting the controller) seems to "resolve" the issue. They lag is considerably less noticeable with the mouse.

    On that note:

If anybody has any idea on how to fix this, please let me know. I have already tried making adjustments to the mouse settings in on my computer, pinnacle, & the game settings. It functions perfectly for awhile and then lags at some point.

I really wish it was true, but my bet would be it's just a generic file that is shared by the consoles and PC/Mac. We can dream can't we?

We would like to add controller support to the PC version of the game, and in fact, we're in the early phases of testing it internally. That said, we don't anticipate that this feature will be added to the PC build until after the game releases on consoles on June 9th.

Everything is happening "after the console release". We get it, we get it...
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.

My dilemma is whether or not to copy my account to console to enjoy native controller support and then not having a way to copy my console characters back to PC. Honestly at this point stating you're releasing PC controller support at some undetermined point in the future is just as frustrating as it is nice to hear.
End the tedious inventory management game.

The fact that they are actually in the process of testing it is promising. I have said before that getting it to work with PC, at the least the XBox controller, shouldn't be too difficult since Windows 8 already has native XBox controller drivers. My suggestion would be to gently remind them periodically that we still want this and hopefully they won't neglect it.

"I'll have The Frank Sinatra," he replied

"And you?" he asked the rabbi

We would LOVE to, but that said, we'd like to be sure it's done correctly. Controller support also includes adding the console UI to the PC version of the game, and ensuring that the UI that we're scaling for the living room works properly on a monitor as well :).

I.E. you have to push it through multiple teams, and if one of them is backed up on other work (UI team fixing console bugs in a rush before launch day), it puts the breaks on the whole shebang. Gotcha.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

@ZOS_GaryA - As someone that was eagerly anticipating the console version due to its amazing controls and UI, I was sad when I had to cancel my preorder due to its lack of any form of text chat. The fact that the controls and UI are coming to PC is great, but "after console release" could even potentially mean as late as mid 2016 or something.

That being said, Can you please give us a more defined target range?

Even just saying "around July or August", "by the end of 2015", "sometime in 2016", "sometime within a few weeks of console launch", or absolutely any more defined target date would be amazing.

    Gary,

I'm going to ask you because you've been so incredibly helpful today providing answers we've been seeking for weeks now. Can we expect a paid console to PC transfer service in the future? I very much want to play ESO with some friends so i've paid for the xbox account copy service. However if they decide to quit and i'm left playing on console then I will have some serious remorse. Losing potentially months of progress when going back to my preferred platform (PC) would be very painful. I don't know about other players, but I would be very willing to pay $50 for a service to transfer my account from console to PC.
End the tedious inventory management game.

I use my PC hooked to my HDTV, so I'm good :) Will there be an option of which UI to use on the PC? I'm sure many players would prefer to stick with the one they have come to know and are comfortable with. For instance, if you are using a controller then you get the "controller UI", but if you plan to stick to keyboard and mouse, you retain the current UI?

I roll with a living room set up too. I'd like to see the new UI GaryA describes. The only drawback to my set up is that text and chat is a little hard to read for my old eyes, even with max character size. Even though the release date for Voice and Controller is 'sometime after the console release', I think that is ZO$ speak for 'we aren't putting in anything new before the console'. Probably has something to do with marketing the console version.

One of the biggest annoyances for me, is when pc games lock you out of keyboard/mouse when you choose to use a controller, i'd love to be able to use them at the same time, like say i'd access my character screen and whatnot with keyboard shortcuts, and actually deal with combat and movement on the controller, in the past bethesda game have locked you out, hopefully since you guys aren't bethesda that won't happen this time.....

Will you be able to also implement a virtual keyboard-controlled chat window into the console versions of the game that can be run by the console game pad? How on earth can you release an MMO onto any platform without a bloody chat window?!

Gary, I must admit that I don't like the scaling much on consoles, as it takes too much space on the screen. While its good for someone who sits far away and uses a controller, someone with mouse & keyboard will face a huge UI, too big for its purpose.

Therefore I wonder, will we be able to disable that controller & UI scaling?

I want to know this too. I would prefer the current PC UI working with native controller support. It would easily work with hotkey based navigation and less scrolling like the Skyrim type UI does. Plus I think PC UI just looks sexier besides the grouping tool which is better on consoles.

Back to bring up menu, bumpers to cycle menus, hotkeys to manipulate parameters.

I'm not sure if anyone here has every played Neverwinter on Xbox One, but in all honestly it probably has the most fluid control scheme for an combat based MMO. Its really easy to use compared to Elder Scrolls Online Xbox controller scheme. I played the beta on my Xbox and while the controls were okay, they definitely where not at fluid as Neverwinter's control scheme.

Just so everyone is aware, I'm not comparing the game play of Neverwinter Vs. TESO, because TESO hands down owns the show there. Just the controls for a controller i compare.

So many good questions! Going from the last post I made, I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability. Bear in mind that there isn't a ton of information just yet, so apologies if the answer ends up being "no info yet!"

@Zazaaji We really don't have any specifics on a date just yet. There are a ton of moving parts that go into making this work correctly, so it's hard to really make a commitment to a time frame until more testing has been done.

@Beowulf_McCallum VOIP is something that has been experimented with for a long time, even prior to the PC/Mac version of the game being launched. That said, the feature is currently deferred and won't see any additional experimentation until after console launch.

@pecheckler Currently we don't have announced plans to do server transfers, with the exception of the console transfer offer for people who bought and activated the PC version of the game before 6/30/2014. If this changes, we'll be sure everyone knows about it ASAP. We're always taking feedback for this kind of stuff too, so if this is a feature you'd like to see, please be sure to /feedback it in the game.

@jkemmery That's the idea, PC users would maintain the current UI while players using a controller would get a modified console layout.

@Eivar Good feedback! These kinds of things are the reason why implementation on the PC isn't as simple as porting the UI. What happens if you're using add ons? Can you use both layouts at the same time seamlessly? Does it swap the UI quickly when you tap a key on your keyboard? Does a UI made for the living room still work on a monitor? These are all things that our teams are thinking about to ensure the smoothest implementation.

@Thesiren Currently there is no option for text chat on the consoles. That said, we've heard the feedback loud and clear from folks that participated in the console beta either by playing or watching, and we'd like to thank everyone for that.

@Audigy On the consoles, the UI has been changed precisely because the average player is going to be on the couch further away. We don't have plans to change the current UI on the PC for mouse/keyboard users. When more info on the PC implementation of the console UI is available, we'll be sure to let everyone know.

@Kalifas That's a pretty interesting thought...we'll be sure that gets sent along to the UI folks.

Whew. Hope that helps. We really do appreciate everyone's feedback and understanding on this!

As always @ZOS_GaryA, your feedback is appreciated and very helpful. Thanks a lot!
