It's akin to one of those claw games you've to dump enough money into before you get anything except worse you only get to pick the level, armor types or ring or weapon. You could dump 1 million AP and never get enough pieces to make a full set. They need to improve this slightly IMO so that you can get a full set within 700K to 1 million AP. in short, they're random grab-bags.Merlin13KAGL wrote: »So, to be clear, you spend the AP's on the container and potentially get an item worth more than the outright AP cost (if possible) to purchase directly?
I've never really opted for the container route, as I've never gotten anything of consequence from them - I assumed the item within would normally be worth about the AP equivalent of the container cost.
Am I mistaken?

I guess I'm just not seeing it, but why the heck is elfbane selling for so much?

You could buy the Rings of Cyrodiil's Light for 256k AP, then sell them for 100k each. Not exactly a 1-for-1 trade there. The unfathomable V14 containers cost a little over 6k AP, @Merlin13KAGL. By my estimates, about 1 out of 15 bags will give you a set piece. These could be anything from the Alteration mastery sets, which don't sell very well, to the Elfbane or Morag Tong set pieces that sell for around 100k to 150k a piece.
Some days however, you will be very unlucky and get nothing from buying a bunch of bags. Other days, you'll get both a Ring of the Hawks Eye and a Ring of the Shadow Walker after buying just 10 containers. Unless you need something that the vendors sell, you should always go with the bags (except for the v14 staff containers - I don't think there's anything good that comes from those).
The best (selling) armors are:
Small & Large v14 Unfathomable Light armor: Arch Mage, Prayer Shawl, Desert Rose
Small & Large v14 Unfathomable Medium armor: Morag Tong & Hawks Eye
Small & Large v14 Unfathomable Heavy armor: Ravager's & Elfbane
Unfathomable v14 1h weapon: Morag Tong daggers
Unfathomable v14 2h weapon: Elfbane & Ravager's 2h weapons.
Unfathomable v14 jewelry: Morag Tong amulet, Shadow Walker, Hawks Eye, and Ravager Rings
Ravaging rings come in v14 unfathomable jewelry?
Nice, thanks for the detailed response, @C0pp3rhead .C0pp3rhead wrote: »By my estimates, about 1 out of 15 bags will give you a set piece. By no means are these the only armors you can get. There are around 6-7 sets per armor type that you can get from these bags. Some are awesome. Some are meh.

So that's about 90k AP for a chance at a salable item.
Given my luck at ESO's NSRNG (Not so RNG) I just usually steered clear of the containers.
I know those have a chance of being in PvP rewards, too. They also have a small chance of spawning in Cyrodiil treasure chests, yes?
