Multiple launches of this installer is not allowed. It will now quit

My friend bought the game and we have been trying to install it. The InstallAnywhere program that starts the installation stops after an error saying "multiple launches of this installer is not allowed. it will now quit"

We have tried everything we could find on Google. It seems this is generally a mac problem, but he is using a PC and we are unable to get it to work.
I also tried to send him my Bethesda.net_launcher, but that does nothing.

He was able to play on beta, but now that he bought the game he cannot install it anymore.

If your friend's installation was interrupted and he tried running the installer again (or multiple times) it's possible there are still instances of the installer running, even though you can't see them in Finder.

Right-click on your task bar to bring up the Task Manager. If you're running Windows 8, you can also hit the Windows key and start typing Task Manager.

When Task Manager is open, click the Name column to sort the apps and processes by name. Go down the list to look for anything that looks related to ESO or Zenimax Online or a related installer (I don't know specifically what the icon and name would be).

When you find the installer in the list, select it and either right-click to choose End Task or press the End Task button on the Task Manager frame (bottom right).

Once you cleared out the instances of the installer in Task Manager, try running the installer again.

Thanks for trying to help, but no. We are good enough friends with computers to make sure it wasn't that.

Though he did get it working later by following some video that he found. If he manages to finish the download and start the game I will post what he did, so others with the same problem can solve it. :)

I have the same problem. After my HD crashed, I tried installing the game on a new one and I had this message. I can't install the game I used to play a couple of months ago. I read about a workaround with unpacking the .exe file etc, but I want to hear from the support first.

anyone know how to unpack the Install_ESO file?

looks like the install file in my account has that same problem, and i've been trying to start the installation for more than 5 hours already and i'm still stuck on the "multiple launches of this installer" lie!
