We wanted to provide an update on keyboard support for the console version of ESOTU. Unfortunately, the message I posted in this thread yesterday was based on our development plans from earlier in the year, which included keyboard support for chat. However, keyboard support for chat is not something that will be available for the console version of the game. You will be able to use a keyboard for text entry in areas such as guild naming, etc., but not for chatting. Mouse support is not planned for the console version of ESOTU.
As things change in development, we definitely try our best to stay on top of those changes to keep you in the loop, but we know that misinformation can be frustrating. Again, we apologize for the confusion.

Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.
He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

I wonder if this may be behind them abandoning keyboard support? I know Skyrim didn't have a text field, and the UI seems pretty heavily modeled after that game. Maybe they felt that the awkward nature of a text entry field, as well as making it readable from across the room, were unnecessary hurdles or actually somehow hindering to gameplay.
Who knows.

You're wanting voice chat support zone chat? That would be insane to have 100+ people all talking on the same voice channel at the same time.
My point and reasoning for talking to keyboards: If there is no keyboard zone chat, there will be no zone chat period, no game maker would be crazy enough to think 100+ people all in a voice chat at the same time would be a good idea. The best/closest you can get with such with voice only is local proximity chat. However, that too is unknown a this time if it'll be included or not.
Why so people cant run pug groups in cyrodil?ruze84b14_ESO wrote: »Accessing the chat entry field in Neverwinter can be awkward and difficult as, without a mouse, it's not intuitive to open the text entry field and activate the on-screen keyboard.

I Just tried to explain this in another related post to someone else.
Neverwinter only allows controller support BUT when the text field is activated, any usb keyboard can be used for letters n numbers. But the function keys aren't supported or ENTER
Until no "text chat" is confirmed then ppl are just over reacting.
Might as well get rid of all text entry then huh? No guild naming, why even name our characters?Hopefully there's no chat window at all. All voice with proximity/party settings.

Naivefanboi wrote: »Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls team with your query regarding using the function /zone on console.
As far as we know, this function should be available, though I guess it will take some time to type your message through the notepad. Did you know there will be some voice command as well?
There will be further announcement on the specificities and function available for console closer to launch. Please remember to check our site on regular basis:
Support gave me answer looks like zone chat is still in the game

Skyrim was a single player game, of course it didn't have a text field. It also didn't have player guilds and group chat, should we remove those too to make ESO more like Skyrim?ruze84b14_ESO wrote: »Accessing the chat entry field in Neverwinter can be awkward and difficult as, without a mouse, it's not intuitive to open the text entry field and activate the on-screen keyboard.

Cause if they are ar a dolmen and need help, doubt ima hear them accross the map in craglorn, just 1 of many examples,
Not to mention voice chat from eso is unnecessary since most groups will be in psn party chat which will over ride eso anyways ... Gg zos typical

Sound like an immersive breath of fresh air to me.
Also, if proximity chat is enabled, psn chat may be the option to discard, depending on the scenairo. This may also help break up giant guild zergs, which everyone should be excited to see. I'm looking forward to it.

Enjoy it, ill be bypassing it with psn chat, since my guild will already be grouped, but we pick up pugs from zone chat to fill extra groups.
Good thing if zone chat gets too much for ya you can close the chat. Log, takrs like 2~5 seconds but totally managable even on a gamepad.
Wont be hearing proximity chat, unless i want to while sneaking around eaves dropping.
Cant wait to see some bandwidth from cyrodil go to voice comms ..... Im sure cyrodil doesnt need any extra help with latency lol
And zerging is a dead horse, issue was pointed out repeatedly before beta ... During beta .... Launch ect
Guess what ? RvRvR pvp is still a mess , been like that in every game thats had it. Gw2, DAoC ect

Devils advocate...what if BETA disables Cyrodil?
I keep thinking this each week as the console email for beta questionnaire was sent out earlier this month but.......maybe the game has been delayed to November due to some new reasonI guess we won't know for sure until the beta.
BTW, shouldn't the beta be launching by now? It's only 6 weeks from the release.
You're talking about a game which doesn't even have a colorblind mode... ZOS doesn't care.LorenzoButtigieg wrote: »What about disabled people who are mute or have speech impediment, my friend is one of them and we always communicate via chat to make it easy for him.
These people will be driven away cause of this dissension. I really hope they change there minds because it would be a shame.
