Fast way to get crafting research

Is there any fast way to get crafting research done?

Is it possible to respect, get something like Metallurgy where you can craft research 2 things, and than respec back to normal, AND your still researching 2 or more things???

Where do you guys get your researchable materials too, is there a famous guild trader? Do you buy from vendor?

While on crafting subject, how do I get crafting writs for steel? I keep getting writs of Iron ore, but I don't get iron ore anymore. Everything is steel crafting iron just costs $$$ while all my inventory is steel.

The only thing to speed research is to subscribe. You get 10% research bonus as ESO Plus.

IIRC if Metallurgy is the one, but yes, you can put skill points into this and research more than one.

Mostly the items come from loot. Buying from vendors or asking in chat is another way to get items for research.

You have to upgrade to the next material, then your writ will be steel. Be aware, that your turn in spot will also change. Hopefully it will be where you have access, which sounds like won't be a problem for you.

edit: If you are serious about researching traits, get the CraftStore add-on. Without something like this, keeping track of researching progress is a real bear. Also, I enabled research timers on Wykkyds Toolbar, so research times are always on screen.

From my own experience, if you take the skill points out of metallurgy (or whichever passive for the appropriate skill line) it sets your items back to taking long. I figured this out by not respeccing back into the woodworking one after 1.6 since I was on my last item anyways.) Put all the skill points in and leave them.

Personally I am guildmaster of a guild and we actually have a crafting night where we trade items for research. Many people in a social/friendly guild will make items for research (except nirn) for free. Random guild traders will have items people make solely for the purpose of selling to a person for research. I recommend grabbing an addon such as craftstore that will show when you loot an item that you need for research.

Your crafting writs are according to the material you can craft. You most likely need to put a skill point into the first passive in the blacksmithing skill tree in order to receive steel writs. I am guessing at this point you are only able to craft with iron ingot? Your crafting writs will always ask you to craft the highest level item you are able to.

Oh I see, I have the skill where I deconstruct I get steel, so I thought I should be getting steel writs but I don't have the skill to make steel.

Anyways. If you get the skill where you can do 2 researches at once, and then drop it before it ends does it keep researching 2 skills or does it stop?

Wondering if people go to respect shrine, get 4 research slots or whatever, use them. And then go right back into there normal spec, while the 4 researches are going on (before they finish). Can you do something like that??

I don't know if that would work since I only had one item going, I think it would BUT then all those items would take a LONG time since you got rid of the passive that also shortens the time.

You can deconstruct any level of item, what's important is what material you can use to craft.

Max is 3 items being researched at once by the way.

If you respec the research will stop. Already used time will be saved an research will continue after putting a skill point into it. There was a bug after introducing respecs where research was not only stopped but finished. Instant research exploit! It was fixed quite fast but I never heard that even one of the exploiters got punished.

There are a lot of skill points to get btw, if I were you I wouldn't bother to respec at all.

    Yes.

You can make powerful crafted sets knowing only 2 or 3 traits. The best crafted sets need 6 traits. Most of my VR characters are using 2 to 3 Trait sets, one is using 6 trait sets. You can do this research in all armor pieces that you use (just the 7 so not all possible armors) and just your primary weapons in about month to get to 6 traits on all things you would use. You can get to 2 or 3 traits in just a couple of weeks, or less.

It is the slog through the 7th and 8th traits that takes forever and filling all the other pieces that you may not use. Avoiding the weapons that you don't regularly use that will significantly reduce the time needed to make a set. You can always go back and research those later.

Someone reported that if you're respecced with items being researched and you don't put points in, the research gets queued, stopping you from adding research until they are all complete :)

Oh, so that's what the research exploit was! I had heard that there was one at one point, but I never knew what it actually was! If it wasn't so rare for me to respec (as in: I pretty much only ever do it when ZOS forces me to after an update), maybe I would have stumbled across it myself back when it still happened...

If you plan on trying to research everything, there is one way to spread your research across multiple items to get to the items you will use first quicker.

First, go get ALL the easy skyshards for your character in ALL the 1-50 zones for that character, you can get as many as 23 skillpoints in DC, 18 in AD and 16 in EP in the first hour of gaming. Use those Skill points to get the research bonus in the crafts you will focus on.
    • Choose which armor type you will use first.
    • Choose which trait you will use first/most on that armor type
    • Choose two primary weapons that you will use first
    • Choose which trait you will use first on those two weapons
    • Now start all the 6-hr initial traits across the maximum SEPARATE items you can (3 max).
    • When those are done do all the rest of the 6-hr traits on the items you need.
    • Don't move to the 2nd trait (12-hr) on any item until you have all the 6-hr ones done.

If you follow this pattern, you can have a full set of armor and 2 weapons with the primary traits you need in the first 2 days or less. Save the last/longer traits for the ones you don't think you will use for last. Keep all the traits together on the same timer 6h/12h/1d/2d/4d/6d/8d/12d etc so you don't have to wait to come back to a shorter trait for that item.

The only catch with your method above is that you have to be a certain level in the equipment crafting skills in order for the 3-item research passive to be unlocked. So, you will have to do a lot of deconning/writs to get that boosted to level 28 before you can put the passive in to unlock 3-item research.

Yes that's a given, the work is still there to do, but even on 1 or 2, the pattern should get the important ones done quickest.

While the writs aren't very profitable, isn't the IP given rather large? Outside of that the only other "quick" way to level is buying/trading for highest level decon items.

Level 28 in any hard craft requires 864,435 IP.

    That leaves the following:

Nightwood Bows give 5526(6079) base IP decon (+10% for subscribed) = 156(142) bows
VoidCloth/Shadowhide Boots give 4281(4709) base IP decon (+10% for subscribed) = 202(184) Boots
Voidstone Daggers give 3928(4321) base IP decon (+10% for subscribed) = 220(200) Daggers

NOTE: Lower level characters will receive less IP until about character level 12~14.

The math is doable with enough funds to buy materials or items.

Not really. I have a character doing L1 Crafting writs as I have a bunch of those mats. She has done about 120 equipment writs across the 3 professions. Doing those have raised her from L6 to probably L10 in those professions. Hard to say exactly as I have been feeding her Intricate VR items to decon (she is VR6 so she gets full credit) and she is currently sitting at L12 in the 3 professions, I am guessing two of them came from decons.

Long story short, Crafting Writs are not the way to level crafting. I will have to note what the Inspiration she is getting, but it seems to me that it's like 1000 points for each one.

There is a faster way but you need 2 characters. Have one character research wepons and cloth while another does heavy armor and leather. Wood working on whom ever you feel like. It's definitely faster but requires more work on your part i.e. motifs, lvling crafts, shards etc.
