Today I found confirmation that ESO will soon include official controller support on the Steam User Discussions board.

Hello there, Arwen! We are sorry to hear that you're having difficulties setting up a controller. At this time, ESO does not officially support controllers, but we are looking to add this functionality in the future and are currently in the early stages of adding it.

In the meantime, we recommend stopping by our Add-Ons & UI Mods section on our official website: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/categories/EN-add-ons-ui-mods. There are several great third-party controller layouts shared, and we're sure that the players who frequent this sub-forum will be happy to work with you to find a good setup in the meantime. :)

With the upcoming multi-platform release, it was already likely controller support would be on the way. In early March I noticed some controller variables listed in user config files.

Since the game's UI is already relatively controller-accessible, it doesn't surprise me. I'm all about my Logitech gaming mouse, but kicking back on the couch with an Xbox One controller and 48" screen is going to be awesome!

This has been known since January, and it is even mentioned in the official help and support page.
/script function IsInGamepadPreferredMode() return true end

Type that into te PC version, hit enter, then press Alt to see its progress. Mouse wheel goes up/down

Honestly, using a controller is what has kept me playing this game.

My work involves me typing and using a mouse for extended periods of time, and after doing that for many hours I just don't have the endurance left to do it again in ESO (guess I'm getting old). Being able to recline in my office chair with an Xbone controller just transformed the game for me.

A few days ago we had a thread about it and people were expressing doubt, I felt it would be worth re-transmitting. Since it's an official response, anyway.

Sometimes necro-posts are good, heh! (The original SUF post is from November)

After seeing the PS4 interface, I actually might switch to using a controller for this game. Mainly because I think using the skill bar would be easier. I usually need to take my hand off the movement keys to be able to hit the 5. Also my mouse occasionally bugs out and won't turn the camera. Only happens with this game, but it may be different with a controller.

That's the main reason I'm happy about it, it uses a different set of muscles moving in a different way and can help prevent me from injuring myself playing video games. I know, lol.
