The weird thing is that back then I used to see hordes of at least 300 players on my team (not including other faction members who were attacking other keeps). Now at best I see 50-60 but the servers show up as locked?Seems populated as ever to me. Granted the game has gone b2p and it is a welcome back weekend. Some campaigns are little light on numbers, but some are still lag-filled monsters during prime time. I think some pvpers are bored with the lack of content and have stayed away.
Like Xiana said, only ZOS knows hard numbers.

They reduced the cyrodiil player caps a few months ago.
Population control in PvP is Zo$ answer to lag.
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.
He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.
The servers can handle only so many AoEs at once that deliver something back to the initiator. Otherwise 200 players on screen is not a problem at all.ruze84b14_ESO wrote: »Population control in PvP is Zo$ answer to lag.
Makes sense to me. Too many players on screen, with too many flashy special effects, and you have lag. That was a duh.
Which of course is why, when I heard about 'hundreds of players on screen' before the game launched, I facepalmed. Nobody can do that. If for no better reason than because the infrastructure for high-speed internet in most parts of the world, including my section of the United States, is aweful.
That's not even counting less than amazing PC's and poor programming. That's just the part ZOS can't control.

However ... the way they handled cadwells silver & gold, is terrible. It's like playing ESO in the far flung future, when the game is just about to close down. Where there was once a populated and vibrant world full of explorers, there is now nothing but a desolate wasteland of solitude.
I could be exaggerating slightly hehe, but the point is clear I hope
Of course the same can be said of Craglorn as well, this of course ties in with, yet again, more bad design choices. If craglorn was soloable, it would be WAY more active, like 1000 fold. Instead, it's almost completely dead. Such a waste of a huge resource.

No exaggeration at all however if its solo-able it would be more dead that Cadwells

They've been reduced twice since release, actually

Yup - most people would complete the content once and never come back.
Noone knows, except Zenimax. All we can do is speculate. Or believe some more or less trustworthy websites...
