Would the game be better if Spell Damage and Weapon Damage were one stat?

It could be called... Ability Damage. And it would be increased by both stamina and magicka*.

But if increasing your either your magikca or stamina stat raised the damage of all your abilities equally, hybrid DPS builds would be a lot more viable. And racial passives that raise these stats would be useful in raising your max stamina or magicka but players would have a lot more flexibility when choosing a race. Passives would have a less direct impact on DPS.

Ultimately, people would have more options when putting together a build.

*Obviously, it would have to contribute less than magikca and stamina do right now for the sake of balance.

    I don't want to see abilities and skills, including weapons "dumbed-down".

    Mmmmm... it would certainly make things easier for me.

    Which is why I'm going to say no. I think options need to include pros and cons, and implementing your suggestion would remove some of the cons.

    You're basically removing a huge choice from all builds, which is a terrible idea. There would literally be no reason to go for anything other than stamina and health.

    Oddly, I feel like it would open up a wider range of viable options. You could play a magicka build, stam build or anything in between.

    Stats would be simpler but there'd be a different set of trade-offs to make for you build.

    Currently, spell-swording isn't viable because you're either full magicka or full stamina.

    You'd could cast far fewer spells with no magicka. So for a stamina build, yeah, it'd be useless. But...

    Right now I don't think you see people splitting points between all three stats at end game anyway.

    I agree. Simplified to stupidity is boring. Require choices and thought for creating a build.

    So instead of increasing your spell damage OR weapon damage,
    you want to increase your spell damage AND weapon damage.

    Why is everyone always trying to ninja in their own form of godmode ?

    I would actually love an ability damage off both stats rather than weapon/spell damage scaling off magicka/stamina separately. But instead of what the OP suggested add another advantage instead of which damage the stats do like regen and cost reduction.

    I think such a system would mean you can play as you want and go a hybrid without a damage loss however you'll benefit more by focusing on one stat.
