    We have a whale!

Is that meant to be an insult? Everyone enjoys games in their own way. Why would anyone care how much someone spends on a game?

No, not a personal insult. Just a statement that at least ZoS has one person on the hook. Cash shops want whales to supply cash infusion.

On one hand, I want to thank you, for supplying them with money. But unfortunately it's too early to tell what they will do with it.

One possibility is they will use that money to fix the game, which is my hope.
Another possibility is they will pocket it and if they see more and more whales, and perpetuate the cycle by putting more and more things in the cash shop for people to purchase in which the game turns into a giant vending machine and that becomes the focus as the business model.

There are other possibilities, but given the lack of transparency it's hard to guess what they will do with the money. Only thing we have to go by is their track record. Which has been telling.

You want to thank me with supplying them with the money needed to keep this game running? Are you insinuating that you aren't? And if so, how do you suppose your beloved game stay running? Are you only staying loyal to a game that is free as long as other's pay what would previously have been your share?

The fact that you laugh at anyone who would be so stupid as to financially support a game that you play is what's most insulting.

This was something we talked about for, well...about a year now. One of the most common requests we got in regards to the pre-order items was "The person I originally used my Pledge of Mara with is no longer around. Can I undo the Rings of Mara buff and do the Pledge with someone else?" This was the driving force behind offering it again.

well done and sorry if everyone is not receiving it well but the decision and implementation is spot on.

Who's laughing? It's just a fact. Some players, will spend a lot on the cash store (whatever that is). Some players will spend a little (whatever that is). Some players will spend none. Each his/her own.

The industry term "whale" (also used in the gambling industry) simply describes a person that... has money to throw around. A companies goal in regards to whales, is to "catch" them so that they throw that money their way.

I am not insulting you. Nor is the term whale insulting. Lots of whales are proud to be whales.

If you throw more money at the game than I do, great. Have at it. Enjoy.

    Point I'm making is:
ZoS has gone from sub model (which is a linear, more smooth income model) to B2P with cash shop. There is a reason for that. They would not do so if they didn't think they could, at this point in the products cycle, profit more from a cash shop. There is no guarantee that they make ANY money from it. There is nothing in the cash shop that anyone NEEDS. But they must figure that there is enough demand for vanity items or convenience items that they are and will put up in the shop based on the player base (how addicted they are, how much they are willing to pay, how much money they may have and want to spend, etc). There are a lot of factors but I assure you the executives at ZoS didn't just throw a dart at a dartboard.

To answer your question though, I am personally not willing to throw extra money into this game at this point. I'm curious to see what they do with money that they get, and thank you and others for giving them money otherwise there wouldn't be much to see what they do if they go belly up. This is my FIRST experience with a cash store game. I've played MMOs back to UO and MUDS and missed the whole hooplah over the last several years by playing single player games or CIV with friends etc etc. I'm a bit skeptical about throwing money into a game, or a company, which I don't feel good about having a sustainable gig going. That's just me. I like the game, just don't trust it enough to throw a lot of money at it. But it needs money to move forward. So, thank you.

I just hope that they use their income to produce the best game of all time, as opposed to seeing the game as just a money making draw and do the bare minimum to keep it that way with the goal being to line pockets and not produce an awesome product. Time and actions will tell.

Some people will continue to pay the subscription, but many will not. That means that in order for ZOS to break even or heaven forbid, generate even more income, some people HAVE to spend more than the subscription. Those people are funding a game for those who are unwilling to pay. (I'm only referring to those who refuse to subscribe or use the item store).

I've played many, many games (and I miss the days of good MUDs!). I have seen many cash shops. Generally, I haven't seen a ton of harm. Sure, I don't particularly care for p2w. At the same time, I'm not competitive so I've never really cared much about that. Even MUDs have what could be considered item shops. If you play any of the Iron Realm games, they have many things you can pay cash for -- mostly convenience items. They have been around forever and I've seen huge improvements on the games over the years.

I will agree that it will be interesting to see what the outcome of this is. Personally, I have faith that we will see many improvements and exciting content. I base this off of the unusual enthusiasm I see from the developers (this can especially be seen in the live streams). I also base this off of the wonderful improvements I've seen in the past year. Until I see otherwise, I will (perhaps naively) expect good things from ESO.

I saw the new leopard-skinned mount, saw the "limited time only" tag, and then saw that it was a ridiculous 2500 crowns.

I immediately thought, "Well that's a blatant cash-grab if ever I saw one. This is just ZOS preying on the completionists and status-seekers out there, by offering this over-priced re-skin for a 4-day-only, impulse-buy-inducing time-frame. Anyone who buys this is a sucker."

Cats. Cats will be my downfall. Add more cats and I may have to get a second job.
    ^ This!

People will spend on what they want, even those of us who have to be canny with it. I'm a retired lady on not very much income, but as I don't drink or smoke, I have a bit of spare cash to spend on things I want. I really wanted the leopard, so I bought it. What I spend my spare cash on has no effect on anyone else.

I see all this griping about prices, but if someone wants it enough, they'll buy it. I really wanted a senche mount for my khajiit characters, and as I missed out on the tiger, I bought the leopard. I'm happy.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

It's really only fair to offer the Leopard at some point to console players, so they're not going to say 'never again.'

I just think the timing is weird. Nobody using the free client is going to spend money on crowns until they buy the retail version of the game.

Okay, the timing isn't that weird. They're using the Leopard-riders as bait to lure new players in who will be the people begging for a re-release of the Leopard a few months from now because they regret not buying it this weekend.

Because everybody wants what they don't have, even if they don't really want it.

This is why I just bought a crown pack and unsubbed. I want the leopard and will buy it when I log back in here in a bit, but I also know myself well enough to know that I don't need $15 automatically going to a game that has certain items on sale only at certain times.

If there were no limited time offers, I'd be perfectly content to keep my sub and wait. As it is, I'm more comfortable choosing specific times to spend money rather than an automatic setup (subscription). I'm just glad I'm learning to manage my addictive personality

I bought some crowns (I had a few left over from my loyalty crowns from my previous sub, so I didn't need to purchase the full amt) to get the leopard because I am planning on getting the Xbox transfer at the 1st of the month and wanted to have my cool leopard mount to transfer with me. For me, it was worth it because I will more likely play more often on the Xbox than I have been on the PC and, if I do, may actually resub at that point.

Plus, I want to support ESO, and if I can only do it from time to time by purchasing some crowns, then so be it. That is how I support them for now.

I was going to buy it because it's limited, but then I remembered:

I also got a "unique" monkey for beta testing. That you can now buy in the store.

I bought the Adventurer Pack which was supposed to be a once time thing. But remained for sale.. and is now available in the store. Part of this pack were unique pets.. which are no all available in the store as separate purchases.

So ya.. .I'd buy Leapord if I thought it wasn't going to be available again. But at this point, I know it'll be available again, and probably at a discounted price.

As I mostly play single player games I am just reminded of the DLC that supports them. I dont normally buy the extra armor/vanity packs, unless it really enhances my roleplay experience.

I think for DA2 I did buy the rogue armor pack in the end because I loved one of the outfits and it suited my character. Overall it improved my experience of the game. This leopard will too.

I never purchased a mount for any other MMO, but as there is no other way to collect mounts in game and I am not paying a sub at the moment (and haven't for a few months), personally I think it is worth it.

As it will take me a while to get to v14 I have quite a few hours to enjoy my senche, not even including endgame.

I would imagine they will release it again, maybe once or twice a year. But I doubt they will discount it.

Also can you really now buy the beta monkey in store? That doesnt sound right...

Quick note: the Beta monkey (or any monkey) is not currently in the crown store. There are plenty of other pets, but the monkey is not. I think the mudcrab and scuttler have also avoided the crown store thus far. This doesn't mean they won't be available with different skins, just that they aren't there now.

Aye I thought I saw a monkey in the crown store back when it first came out and stuff was shifting around... I could be wrong though I guess. All of the stuff I thought was limited thats coming back out only gives me hope I'll get my tiger someday... It does seem a bit insane how hard it is to get a cat mount, or anything thats not a horse without paying real money, or anything at all if you're a new player without money to spend... I only hope the cat mounts and maybe all mounts will get more common as rarer mounts roll out. I like variety.

@GreySix I'll trade you a leopard for a tiger then...

I think the leopard is prettier than the tiger :).

I did assume they would bring the leopard back at somepoint, but as the launcher says

    'limited time only'

I can see that some players may be disappointed if they did. It is quite misleading and could be interpreted as once only.

As MMO's have to constantly release content it is quite common to make limited items available more than once. Older games that sold extra limited content near launch never sold it again (I am thinking xbox live titles etc).

I'll be buying it later today....the only valid reasons not to buy are:
    1. No crowns and no money
    2. You don't want it
    3. You didn't log on and missed the opportunity

I can think of more valid reasons but why bother. When people state absolutes, it's wasted breath trying to discuss the issue further.
