Crazy Dwemer Theory

So, what if the dwemer aren't gone. Instead, what if they trapped themselves inside of the constructs they created? Just an idea, since it doesn't seem like the (seemingly from what's been said by lore) dwarves were all that nice to begin with. Not to mention the machines have function for centuries by repairing themselves, and some even become friendly (maybe children or the few who opposed their culture).

Either way, just a thought I wanted to share and see if anyone else had considered this.

Yessss! This is the exact idea I've had for awhile now, they've trapped themselves inside the soul gems they use for their constructs and have been furiously trying to rebuild their civilization since their war with the chimer and over the years have driven themselves insane with their futile attempts.

Yeah that's always been the line of thinking, but one thing that ESO has lots of that not many other ES games based in Northern Tamriel has are people owning friendly dwemer constructs. I think a reason for this would be that perhaps many people had them, but as those people died out those constructs being too far from proper care/maintenance also died out. With only the hostile ones left in the runes by the time any of the single player games come around.

I think they still could have gone to another plane, but it kinda seems poetic if they got trapped in the machines they built right? I mean, the plan was to trap the soul of a dead god into a massive construct to fight the chinmer, or to give themselves godly powers. Any number of things could have happened, just adding more "what if" to the fire I guess.

They may be in another plane of existence as @Chuggernaut says, or clubbing in the Imperial City:P

They might be, as no one has seen them there...so they could be there....maybe....

It's an interesting thought. How do you explain that they had the machinations prior to the Battle of Red Mountain? I always thought they returned to The Et'Ada, The formless consciousness from which the Aedra and Daedra formed. Your idea is a bit more poetic than what I ascribe to.

Except that their disappearance happened in the middle of battle. Poof. No constructs nearby to bind themselves to. They most likely returned to Et'Ada, like @Gidorick said above. Except for that one Dwemer who is still alive in Morrowind because he was in Oblivion during the event.

Within lore circles it is pretty well known that the Dwemer became the brass skin of the Numidiium. Of course that is always open to discussion .i.e. if that means they are somewhere else, conscious or unconscious etc

Well it happened to All dwemer on the continent Mundus, not just the ones at red mountain. Also there were tons of constructs nearby, since they were in the middle of a war and all.

I had never heard this before, but I guess that kinda makes sense considering all the things that happened in ES:III. Still I'm not 100% convinced they would simply adhered to 1 construct since if that were the case I'm doubtful it should still need the Mantella to function. I'm very curious about this theory though, could you please link or explain it further?

    Yeah, they beamed up.

The slightly more sophisticated explanation is they attempted to use the heart of Lorkhan to produce a race wide apotheosis, and instead snuffed themselves from existence everywhere.

If they just "shifted" then it's possible that at some point, they can "shift" back or that we can "shift" to wherever they are.

False theory. In Skyrim in Mage Guild you can help to repeat dwemer bidding ritual. After it succeed, mage dissapearing, however you can summon his soul http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Arniel's_Endeavor. Also you can meet dwemer souls in Morrowind and Yagrum Bagarn tried to find his fellow people but failed.

Nope. Their transit to wherever they ended up instantly ashed their bodies. So if they did go someplace, they can't come back. You can actually see this in a sealed Dwemer Ruin under Mournhold in Tribunal.

Actually, I think this is 100% it. Fits all the data, and makes sense from what was seen. Guess the constructs are just really advance robots with learning A.I. Pretty cool legacy when all is said and done.

Would have been nice to have a new dwemer zone about the dwemers... I mean, this is ESO, why haven't we got one yet?

Funny you should say that, given your name. The Clockwork City is on the slate. And while Sotha Sil isn't associated with the Dwemer directly; of the Tribunal, he's spent the most time studying them. Combined with the fact that the preview videos do feature the Fabricants... you might get your wish.

Yeah they showcased CCity but it will probably happen in... 2017 at this pace? -if we are lucky...- Dwemers are one of the most intriguing mystery of the series, it should have been the first new zone/content/raid/dungeon/quests to come up.

Well in Bethesda's defense as a whole, they have kinda hinted at not wanting to reveal exactly what happened with the dwemer. They say the mystery is one of the appealing points of the series and as such they probably won't (at least they have no current intentions) of explaining it or brining them back. however, the quest in skyrim pretty much succinctly ties up what happened to them so... mystery solved?

After creating the dwemer they crafted space ships and traveled to cybertron where they created the transformers under the name the Quintessons. The transformers eventually fled to earth back in 1975 when Van Halen made their first album. They remained there in secret underground bunkers where they defended the earth against cobra commander. They were mostly successful until Skynet was activated in 1997 and corrupted the transformers into terminators. Thats when He-man traveled back in time to stop Skynet from being brought on line. After He-man stopped Skynet he attempted to travel back to his own time. However something went wrong and he traveled several centuries in the past and was thrown across the cosmos. He finally arrived on Nirn. He-Man met She-Ra there on Nirn and had many children in the mountains. Worried about the cold he began to build giant underground cities. It was too much for He-Man to do alone so he built robots to perform most of the labor. He called those robots the Dwemer.

Now you all know, and knowing is half the battle.
