Today while playing I received a system message in my chat window and across the screen about how today was national pet day and how I can get pets in the crown store. I'm fine with the occasional in game reminder about crown store items (bills need to be paid), but please don't turn this into a PBS marathon of commercials.

Wait until one of the sister companies releases a game and you get commercials in the middle of battle. Maybe when spell crafting gets put in you can decipher the Daedric language and it will say "Remember to drink ice cold Nuka Cola!" (Christmas Story Reference FTW!)

I once played a F2P MMO, don't remember it's name - think it's been Seven Samurais. You'd have to see ad banner/videos whenever your game showed a loding screen, when you zoned, when you died, etc. :P It can get a lot worse than just some once-in-a-week text message.
