Is there any benefit to laundering stolen items?

Just curious if stolen goods do anything after laundering them. Just looted my first purple, and if it would do something more than sit in my inventory taking up space I'd like to launder it. Searched the forums but haven't quite found an answer yet. I also saw some people saying they launder stuff then sell it to npc vendors...do you get more gold this way? Thanks

AFAIK, the random bits and pieces you steal serve no purpose other than to be sold. There are a couple exceptions--motif books, provisioning ingredients, and clothes--but generally what you steal is there to make you money.

I have no idea why that popup about selling rare items comes up on the Fence screen.

Other than for keeping the items for yourself (as explained above) achievements are the only other reason I'd see.
TL;DR - If you got this far without reading the entire post you're either too lazy or suck at reading comprehension and probably don't belong in a public forum anyway. Just move along, you wouldn't understand.

I usually sell Green and Blue then launder the rest.

Once launder is capped then I just sell the whites.

Don't see how laundering stuff would improve profits when selling to NPCs.

I would only launder items you plan on using. That way if you get caught by a guard you won't lose them. Otherwise I would just sell your goods marked as stolen for gold.

I only launder items I want to give to another character or use long-term.

If the item has no purpose other than to be sold then you're better off just selling them directly to the fence. If it's something you can use right away (like a motif or recipe that character needs) then you can just use them, no need to launder them at all.

But you can't put stolen items in the bank and if you're caught by a guard later on, even if it's for a different crime, they'll take anything you've got that's stolen. So if you're not going to use it right away, want to use it on a different character or you want to keep it forever it's best to launder it.

I prefer fencing, but laundering is a good thing to do as well IMO , and wont go into any other detail, as the above peeps have already said pretty much what I would have said haha.

Both laundering and fencing stolen items give points towards the Legerdemain. So if your trying to level the skill line as fast as possible it's worth while to max out both fencing and laundering limits whenever possible and just vendor the laundered items. However keep in mind that the fee to launder an item is the same as it's value to a vendor, so you'll recoup the money you lost for the transaction but you won't be turning a profit.

Laundering is necessary though with things like motifs and recipes if you intend to sell them to other players or give them to an alt. Of course for personal use you can skip laundering and just use the item.

Other than that, no there's no real reason to launder the misc items you'll find when stealing.

there are two reasons to launder items, one being to skill up legerdemain, and the other is you can steal useable items, and if you don't want them confiscated you need to launder them.

the general concensus seems to be launder all white items, and vendor them to make your money back, and sell all green and higher quality items to make a profit, while leveling the skill line, once maxed i would assume you only launder items you want to keep

I only Launder Motifs and Recipes. I might launder the occasional green weapon if it is Intricate and a crafter can gain some inspiration from it. Otherwise, from Provisioning Ingredients to Style Gems to SWAG, it all gets Fenced.

However I do remember the day I went in and accidentally Laundered 40 plus items......Grrrrr. I wanted to launder a Motif and a Recipe only, but went and did them all. At least I could sell them and break even on the operation, but that day certainly cost me some money that I did not get to put in the bank.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
