How to play ESO on console without Xbox Gold Live and PS Plus membership?

Hi All,

There is a requirement to have Xbox Gold Live or PS Plus membership to be able to play on console. Any idea how to play on console without this extra $60/year payment?

"Will I need to be an Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus member in order to play the console versions?

Yes. As with any standard multiplayer game on these platforms, an internet connection and an Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus membership will be required to play"

    And the problem is?
There is no sub fee, so it is no different than playing GTAV or COD multiplayer as far as cost goes.

The problem is - I am not playing other games and would probably buy PS4 just for this game. But it is a NO if I have to pay $50-60/year for nothing. If you are already paying - it is not a problem for you.

But it's not for nothing... you'd play the game you just said you'd buy a PS4 for.

This is for nothing. It is not needed to play the game. You gave it to PS just for fun.

    Hey there @vovus69,

A PlayStation Plus/Xbox Live Gold membership will be required to play The Elder Scrolls Online on their respective console versions.

This is a pity Gary. So I will stick with PC version for now if I will not be able to find a way to get this membership for free.

But this is normal for Sony and Microsoft console customers, has nothing to do with ZOS.

A console may not be for you for only one game, play on PC then.
One other point PS plus gives you access to other good games as part of the fee free to keep,
so you can have more than one game that way.

Yep, I'll keep playing on PC and will find a way to get cost free membership. If I'll be able to get it - will see. Perhaps will move to console. But right now my PS3 is more than enough for me.

These are businesses and have to pay to operate just like you're parents pay for your electricity at your house. These fees are to cover monthly operation and maintenance costs plus a little profit. Your using a service and have to pay for it, what is there not to understand?

$60 over a year, well....it's just not a lot of money.

    To answer your question.....No.

Hey, cuyler, what service I exactly using? I bought PS4 and I am paying for my internet. I don't give a *** for all other stuff sony or MS is putting in this service. I just need to play on ESO servers. So I am paying this money for nothing. They get it just because there are two vendors of the consoles now. Period.

Used to cost $180 ish a year just to login. Now it costs nothing but the game and a PS+ membership which gives you access to alot more than just ESO.

James, again - I don't need any service. I just need internet connection to the ESO servers to play. Where is the sony service here? Nowhere.

I have no idea why PS+ is required for online gaming. I dont own a console. I assume there is some reason for it.

Yep, I'll pay monthly fee for ESO+ because it is kind of charity in favour of ESO, but I will not pay strange amount to Sony/MS for services I am not using...

There is no reason apart from cartel-kind of agreement between sony and MS. They are monopolists on the market, so they can impose whatever fee they think will fly. And it is flying...

No. I can play on PS3 without even touching this *** service. So it is not. They just want you to think that it is .

You're PS4 would use the PSN of which ESO is now a part of. PS pays to operate that network, therefore those costs get passed to the consumer aka you. In addition to licensing fees.

Did this actually need it's own thread? No.

Could you of continued this discussion in the previous thread on the topic you had already posted in and received a similar response? yes.

You're just being obtuse here and clogging up the general forum. I'm surprised mods don't move these thread to customer support honestly.

Here is what you're paying for when using xbl gold or ps plus that this PC game doesn't offer

-voice chat service (which will cost you $5/month on PC alone)
-game certification so that you don't end up playing bugged to the point of not being able to play (UA know like this is from time to time)
    -controller support UI

I'd think that these are worth $5/month

I read this and understand. This is not needed to play online. They just want you to think that it is needed :) So you was kinda brainwashed. Which is Ok.
