Its Been Awhile...I'm Old...Tired... Just Want To Have Fun....

Its been awhile since I have played an MMO for any length of time. Back in the day (1999 Everquest) I could pull some crazy hours of play. I might of just burned out, or I am just getting old. My game play style is pretty much I keep to myself a lot of the time, for the simple reason I am disabled and on medication my game play can be from 10 minutes to 1 hour to 4 hours. I might be on at 8 AM or 1100 PM or 4:30 AM I just never know. Can I basically "Solo" this game, maybe group now and then, still have fun and NOT I repeat NOT get "Trapped" as many MMO's have done in the past to where you need an UBER group to pass some section before you can advance? Thanks in Advance for any answers.

You will not soon find yourself "trapped in".
    On VR14 maybe.

You can Solo anything in the game but Dolmens, Group Dungeons and Public Dungeons that are at your level. Nice thing about Dolmens and Public Dungeons is there almost always someone else around to help out.

The other nice thing about the game is even the complex multi stage quests are just that, in stages. So you can do part of a quest, and pick the rest up later. Sometimes I only log on for 10 minutes or so. To that end, I have never had a quest where I have logged off in the middle of it and not be able to pick it back up where I left*. With one exception, a few of the Mages, Fighters and Main Quests are a bit involved and you may want to carve out 30 to 60 minutes for those. Most of the reason is if you leave in the middle, you have to slog your way back through the dungeon. Most of the time the intermediary mobs are gone, sometimes they are not.

But, yes, the game is 99% Solo Capable.

Dungeons are not so large that you have to spend an evening in them. But some are quite spacious, some are quite small (thought they keep making the small ones bigger)

There is also no real grind in the game, unless you want it. If you just do the content (quests and such) then you will level as you need to as you go along. The Destinations Addon can help you find quests to flesh out a zone. The only things I ever grind for are certain achievements, like Monster Hunter, and certain items that are rare drops, but that's even optional too.

*If a quest weirds out on you, and a relog does not sort it, then just Abandon the Quest and pick it up again. That has fixed the 3 quests that bugged on me (1400 hours played)

There's a lot of complaints by PvP players about things being lacking. PvE Trials, which require grouping, aren't until VR5. AFAIK most players are playing solo not just because PvP is thought to be lacking but also because of phasing, poor group tools and poor Guild Tools. It's easy to play solo, one might think this was a single player game :).

One more thing, if you want to join a guild that is casual and just about fun in the game, send me a message in game to @Nestor and I can get you hooked up with Lone Wolf Help.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

ESO has a distinct difference between solo-able content, semi-group content and group conent.

Soloable content: the main story, the guild quests, the delves, and all open parts of the maps except the dolmen and the world bosses (dolmen looks like cogwheel , worldbosses like a skull and bones on the minimap).

Semi-group content: the dolmen and worldbosses, as well as the public dungeons need other people. the first two take less then 5 minutes to complete. So it is perfectly ok to go there, wait for other to show up (most often while you wait for respawn) and do it together without actually forming a party. Public dungeons take bout 30-60 minutes and require a group to have a breeze. But still no need to form a party. Just sticking together is ok too. This type of content can be soloed. but it is hard and not designed that way.

Only challenges and group dungeons really require a party.
PvP is different cause it depends on who you meet. If you encounter a large group you are screwed when you are on your own for obvious reasons.

All in all, you can finish most of the PvE on your own, or with party's that happened cause you where just there. The endgamestuff is more for group play though.

I've only done two low level group dungeons so far but both were quite short compared to what I've experienced in other games. I don't remember exactly how long they took but it was well under an hour.

The first time I said yes, then looked at the clock and started thinking I didn't really have time to do a dungeon but I didn't want to suddenly change my mind the first time my new guild invited me to a group. As it turned out I had time to complete the dungeon, wander around inside the dungeon and have a long chat afterwards.

Everything else I've come across (up to level 15) can be done solo. Some things, like public dungeons, you probably couldn't do if you were literally the only person around, but fortunately this game allows you to play with other people without actually being in a group. Which means you can make your way through at your own pace, but when you come to a fight that needs other people you can do it together with whoever else happens to be there and then continue on your own way.

It started up this Summer. I recently became the Recruitment Officer simply because I think it is a great guild to be in. So, I give it a plug when I can.

Actually Lone Wolf Help started up about mid May ;) Guildmaster of Lone Wolf Help here. Nestor has been a long standing member who is looking after recruiting and PR for the guild, hence you may be seeing it around as Nestor is quite active within the forums @Woolenthreads
Funny story, our guild slogan is "For the solo players who know, sometimes you need a hand" We all came to the game knowing we may not be able to spend large amounts of time in game, but wanted to be part of a friendly group we could call on (as well help when we were around) for things we couldn't do alone.

As mentioned above, most of the content is easily able to be solo'd. You'll be good. I hope you enjoy your adventures through Tamriel!

LOL Good for you. I'm still trying to pick up a large Trading Guild so I can actually sell my growing list of spare recipes and blue motifs instead of having them sit in a Guild Store of selling them to Vendors. The problem with the Large Guilds is that they have limited spots and it takes a while to move up the queue. In the meantime I have nights like last night where I picked up another motif and more spare recipes *sigh*, my fault for being so OCD prior to v1.6.
