Spread Players Out

Since fixing the core issues that cause lag in Cyrodiil is a long way away ZOS has started adding things to spread us out. Increased XP for quests and mobs, AP buffs for delve bosses and now Coldharbor siege for dolmen. I don't like all of it, but at least it is an attempt to lure players to spread out. Although it does nothing to help your faction in the war raging throughout the zone.

What about adding something that helps in the war? @Agrippa_Invisus previously mentioned making XP in Cyro the highest in the game and adding more high level mats to farm as a way to attract more people to campaigns. Why not add on to that and make writs in Cyro that could be redeemable for creating forward bases/camps? Other than the blood porting issue, camps were too easy to acquire and I could run around with a stack of 20 at all times. Burn one down, I have 19 more for ya. These would take time and effort to acquire and would not be near as plentiful. Why not have them help speed up repairing keeps and/or making keeps stronger? Why not have provisioning and alchemy writs strengthen keep guards?

Creating diversions to entice us to do other things is ok I guess, but if I am in Cyro I want to do something that I feel is contributing. I could get more mats, I could get better mats, I could get more XP and at the same time I am not just clogging up a slot in a pop locked campaign for my own personal gain. Part of those spoils goes to helping out my faction.

Just random thoughts on a slow Monday

F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days." - Matt Firor

They need to add rune siege mines and siege weapons like a poison that does an area of effect for a time in an area, yes know mines is a mage guild and sorc line amd all that rot, but talking like a mine that doesn't trigger for some time till someone goes over....or even adding a trap when a keep falls runes on the walls go off and make them all go to zerg, have to stop and repair everything and hope a counter attack doesn't happen.

But guess given the resouce limits adding that stuff could be more of a problem then spreading people out , just given the way zergs and such move, could be more effective then this.

Over all like the stuff, but apart from the anchors, go werewolf and finish quickly its all moot for me cause can get in the fight again rather fast after hitting the boss.

    Sorry for the many edits

Did ZOS actually say that their goal with adding the Dolmen siege and Delve buff is to spread people out? I like that they're giving these places more meaning in Cyrodiil, but if their goal is to spread people out, it's certainly not going to work. There's no way players are going to look at their map and say "Oh look our scroll is moving, pfft, let's go do a dolmen!" or anything of the sort.

I just see people repeating that ZOS added these to spread people out, but it makes no sense to me, getting buff is only going to help you when you go back to the massive fights, and getting better siege is only going to help in massive fights. I suspect some people might be a bit obsessed with the idea that the purpose of every change is to fix the lag.

Perhaps if they could somehow do away with home campaigns, anyone who qued would be automatically placed into one of some amount of servers which would all have equal populations at any given time. This would mean a major revamp of the core of Cyrodiil but I'm just thinking outside of the box about ways for the game to naturally compel fairness.

I like what they are doing to spread people out and I like most of the suggestions I've seen to further that goal.

I just had a thought that is slightly off topic. Do you think that will still be enough? I mean the way things are set up the server is calculating way more computations that it was designed to handle on per character basis In my opinion. I say this because a large portion of players are doing at least 3 or more actions simulaneously that requiresthe server to work harder. The most basic is the combo of animation canceling with block casting not to mention dodging, using siege, having vanity pets out and of course the increased pressure on the server from aoe abilities.

This not an argument for or against block casting/animation canceling etc as I do it too to be competitive. It's just a thought on something that could be contributing to the lag.

I suggested a month ago doing away with guest campaigns and...crickets was the answer. I'm not sure why we still have guest campaigns or buff campaigns anymore. Idk. Maybe I'm wrong and doing away with them would cause more trouble.

I've always thought it would be cool if top tier crafting materials should be only found in set locations in cyrodiil and be guarded by a bunch of gankers. Unfortunately it's zos's vision that people can 'play how they want' and they shouldn't be forced to enter Cyrodiil to obtain end game mats. As a result voidstone etc is worth like 10 coins each. Gear progression and economy is garbage. This is the most watered down MMO I've ever seen, made for a bunch of casuals.

    OP,
I don't have an issue with what you suggest, they are great ideas. But they need to fix the lag to be viable long term. I have said before. ZOS idea for fixing a leak in your swimming pool is to empty the rest of the water out, not fix the hole...they are emptying the rest of the water out of Cyrodiil leaving it useless for swimming.

I agree with you 100%. These are all just diversions from the real issue. They say they are working on it, but I don't think they know what to do.....or are unwilling to spend the resources needed to do it. But since they are trying to add different stuff to try and incentivize behavior, they might as well add stuff that will add real flavor to the alliance war that could be seen as a long term benefit as well

trying to spread people out, after multiple red pop caps, is yet another admittance to failure, "big scale pvp with 100's of players" they said..... but well dead horse been beaten into a pulp

anyway, if they wanne spread out people and keep it alliance war related, they should add more objectives, now we have a couple keeps and most people are centered around the Imp keeps between factions, what if they devided the map up into zones, like each keep would be a zone, and the space in between could be zone of a farm-mine-lumbertown, church, goblin camp,... if you take the zone (keep zone is taking the keep obviously, town is capping some different flags all over the town, ...) u would get some benefits (example towns provide bonusses to neighboring keeps like the resources now around keeps, or add patrols on the lands around, goblin camp gives option to hire mercenaries..., church add faith giving bonus to somethinsomethin... so instead of 18 keeps and 3 outposts, there could be maybe 50-60 zones or something, each a specific area on the map, and when taken borders turn the colour of the alliance, hostile npc's become friendly and yadayada, this would add more dimension to tactical playstyle (take a specific zone there to weaken some other objectives...) and would spread people out taking different zones, because now its stay at the imperial keep circle, or ride endlessly to try and get a far away keep. ofc scoring and such would also have to be redesigned, whole map would have to be redesigned, so fat chance, but would be epic

Adding more objectives is a great idea. Perhaps respawn locations that are fought over like keeps and outposts.

Hey look, a cleverly disguised "bring back FC" post. Just kidding, though I did see you shamelessly slipped that in there.

FCs didn't exactly do anything to help players spread out.

The other ideas, I like though.

You caught me :) The intent wasn't so much as a bring back forward camps, more along the line of adding stuff to actually benefit the faction rather than just individual players. I used FC's because, 1) I am lazy and it is the first thing that came to mind and 2) I believe they will be coming back at some point so they might as well do it right rather than their usual throw it at the wall hope it sticks and patch 5 times.
