Console Clarification Request

So here's what I've heard so far about console. And please please please correct me if I'm wrong.

- Console players will be on their own servers. PS4 players with PS4 players. XBone players with XBone players. PC players with PC players. No interaction.

- Someone said you can transfer your account to console, but not your characters, effectively having to start from scratch.

- I remember reading you could transfer characters but the progress wouldn't transfer. IE: if you transfered a V2 from PC to PS4, the PS4 version would pick up where the PC version left off. But if you went back to PC, no progress would have been made.

- No add-on support for Console. But improvements will be made to the UI to better address the need for add-ons.

- Integrated voice chat for: zone, group and guild.

The thing I don't get is why aren't at the very least, PS4 and PC players going to be able to play together on the same server. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn allows this. Was it just a design decision or was Sony all like "f*ck NO" for some reason?

Any clarification on the aforementioned rumors and hearsay would be greatly appreciated (not for myself, I'm sticking PC but by other people who aren't as informed about what to expect with the console release in 2 months.)

    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_JasonLeavey

-Yes - every platform will be on its own server
-You can COPY your account from PC to Xbox One or from PC to PS4 (IF you purchased the PC and activated your account by June 30, 2014) *No exceptions have been made as of today
*Once you copy the account you keep the PC account AND CHARACTERS as well as the copy of the ACCOUNT and CHARACTERS on the console chosen.

-Add-on support as PC considers it, have not been clarified but from prior experiences an add-on would need to be cert via XBox or PS4 so prob not

-Voice chat is a platform specific endeavor. All PS4 and Xbox One games that are online only support some versions of chat but specifics have not been released yet.

Most if not all this information is available under the support tab. Just search for console

    Hey @WraithAzraiel,

We'll be happy to clear up a few of these points.
    - Console players will be on their own servers. PS4 players with PS4 players. XBone players with XBone players. PC players with PC players. No interaction.
Correct, with the addition that PC/Mac are still on the same megaserver.
    - Someone said you can transfer your account to console, but not your characters, effectively having to start from scratch.
This is not the case. If you are eligible for the console transfer offer, your characters/progress/items will all transfer with you. For more on what does and does not transfer, please check out this article.
    - I remember reading you could transfer characters but the progress wouldn't transfer. IE: if you transfered a V2 from PC to PS4, the PS4 version would pick up where the PC version left off. But if you went back to PC, no progress would have been made.
In a way, correct. Once the console transfer is completed, you'll end up with what is essentially a copy of your account on the console version, but your progress on each platform will be separate from there forward. That means that if you level up a character on the console version, it won't affect the PC version, and vice-versa.

In the example that you provided, your VR2 would be copied to the PS4 server, so you would now have a copy of this character on both the PC and the PS4. You would then boot up your PS4 and see your character exactly as you left them (with the exceptions made above, such as guilds, mail, etc). From there, any progress made on the PS4 version of this character would not affect the PC version. Similarly, progress made on the PC version would not affect the PS4 version of the character.
    - No add-on support for Console. But improvements will be made to the UI to better address the need for add-ons.
There will not be add on support for the console versions of the game. We'll have more info on the console UI as we get closer to release.
    - Integrated voice chat for: zone, group and guild.
There will be integrated voice chat. As with the UI, we'll have more details on this feature as we get closer to release.

    Hope that helps!

Any specific reason behind why ZOS decided to go with no cross-platforming? I can understand why Sony and Microsoft don't want their players together, but don't understand why either one won't share servers with PC players.

Just seems like all those extra servers are going to be more of a pain.

Xbox wouldn't allow it. It's why they don't have war thunder either that's going to be x platform. Sony said yes so they got the game.

I with zeni had of followed suit and released the game on playstation only and allowed x-platform.

Why are people jumping to X console wont allow, or Y console will ?There is no indication from any worth while articles to suggest that one was in support while another was not FOR THIS GAME.

AND...considering PC can barely hold the NA together, why would anyone in the right mind want to be added to the problems that exist today as of TU launch?

We are still working out the details of how the regional (NA and EU) megaservers will impact a player's server options when transferring from PC/Mac to either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Our initial plans would have only allowed players to transfer from the North American PC/Mac server to the North American console server of their choice, or from the European PC/Mac server to the European console server of their choice. However, we are now working toward a situation in which a player's PC/Mac megaserver choice will not impact the player's options when selecting a console server.

Will PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players each get different bonuses because of the deferred release?

    Updated 03/16/2015 11:20 AM Published 12/11/2013 10:13 AM
We are actively discussing a system with both Sony and Microsoft that will allow PC players to transfer their characters over to either a PS4 or Xbox One version at release. Players who are eligible to have their characters transferred will receive an e-mail informing them of the transfer option. They will then be able to purchase the upgrade via our website at www.elderscrollsonline.com.

Very few games allow cross-platform play, especially when there's a PvP element (mouse and keyboard will always be faster than gamepad, etc.).

I can understand why Sony and Microsoft don't want their players together

FFXI supported PS2, PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 players on the same servers, so it's technically possible. And FFXIV has cross platform servers, but not Xbone. MS appears to be the holdout now. I'd say if MS are going to be PITA about it, ZOS should just do what Square Enix have done and allow PS4/PC players on the same server. MS are shooting themselves in the foot with their attitude, ZOS shouldn't follow their lead.

They have also said in ESO Live presentations as you have pointed out OP that the integrated voice chat for console will include channels including say distance, group chat and guild chats in addition to the usual console party chat. I think you should still be able to find that answer to that question in the ESO Live Q&A section from the ESO Live a few weeks ago if you want the more official version of that response.

We are actively discussing a system with both Sony and Microsoft that will allow PC players to transfer their characters over to either a PS4 or Xbox One version at release. Players who are eligible to have their characters transferred will receive an e-mail informing them of the transfer option. They will then be able to purchase the upgrade via our website at www.elderscrollsonline.com.

    Thanks Gary!

The Megaserver technology featured in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will allow PC (Windows OS) players and Mac players to play together. Xbox One players will play on a specific Megaserver with other players using an Xbox One. PlayStation 4 players will have a specific Megaserver dedicated to only those players using a PS4.

PlayStation 4 users will have their own dedicated ESO Megaservers (European and North American). PC and Mac users will not be on the PS4 Megaservers.

They will be split. PS4 users will play The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on either the European PS4 Megaserver or the North American PS4 Megaserver. We'll share more details about how this will work closer to launch.

    Thanks for those links.....
I'm reading these articles as BOTH are being stubborn.
-Microsoft wants more control of the servers
-Developers don't want to be responsible for gaming experiences of console players

Thats my take But again THANK YOU for the links
